There are many factors that need to be taken into account when assessing development of a child or young person as they are all individuals and so must be assessed with these individualisms taken into account. All children and young people develop at different rates and stages and reach specific markers at different times in their lives. Times change and people change with them. Over the last two decades, there have been significant advances in technological innovations. Because of the creation of laptops, cellphones, tablets, and more, information is much more accessible to the average person. Today, the average person spends about 7 hours of their day using some form of media technology. (Communications Market Report) The statistics are even higher for children and teenagers, who spend about 53 hours using media technology a week. (Generation M2 Report) The excessive use of media technology can be attributed to anything from communicating on social networking cites to participating in tutorial sessions for classes. No matter the reason for using media technology, education officials have observed that the way young people learn has begun to change. For example, students (k-12) no longer have to read through encyclopedias to find out facts; instead they can simply search for facts on the Internet. Because of the change in learning, education officials have advocated for change in the traditional education curriculum. They want to move away from the traditional way of learning---books, paper, and pencils—to a more technological based curriculum.…

A1.1 Children’s development is fluent and can be measured in several different ways. Although all children develop at different rates and in several different ways, the sequence in which they develop will be about the same as they need to have developed one skill, for example holding on to something before they can shake something like a maracas. Development is broken down in ages, as development is quicker in early years the milestones start by being very close together such as 6 months, 1 year, 18 months. They become further apart as a baby becomes a child and then a young adult. The aspects of development that children are measured on are physical, language, social and emotional, and intellect.…

In this manner, Robin Mejia, author of “How Texting Changes the Way Kids Communicate” explains how the pros out outweigh the cons in the way kids communicate using technology. Mejia goes on to explain that it is safer in today’s society because kids spend most of their time online talking to their friends in real life opposed to a potential predator. She also writes about how the technology today lets the parents themselves communicate easier with their kids while they carry their busy work schedule. Lastly, she believes that the kids are able to sustain friendships better and that a lot of the communicating is positive between the kids and their peers. Technology is positive for the younger generation, because it helps stay in touch with friends,…

Emails are being used more and more with the new technology available and to some parents; this is a good, effective form of communication as they can have instant information, especially if they use their mobile phones for email. This type of communication won’t suit all parents and this should be kept in mind when deciding which type of communication to use. Also, emails can get lost in the system or deleted very easily.…

Communication is known to many as the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thought, message, information, speech, visual, signal, writing, or behavior. It is also a significant exchange of information between two people or a group of individuals. With the growing use of technology, communication now occurs at a rate of high speed in a way that many people applaud and is being used in many different forums that would have been unheard off 5 to 10 years ago. When reading, Twitter Goes To College, (Miners, 2009); I believe the message being expressed is that in today’s generation social networks, media devices, and use of the internet are all types of “today” communication technology which plays a huge positive role in education.…

As I embarked into this higher education path I wanted nothing more than to be an administrator of an Elementary or Middle School in Texas. I was able to even envision myself in the school district I currently work in working in school administration at one of the schools I have taught at. I was fortunate on my internship year to have the position of being the instructional technology facilitator and was able to help more in depth with the administrators of my campus and learn the in and outs of the administration side of the school. Looking at all of this and having experienced it I am now thinking I am leaning towards more working towards becoming a department head or maybe the head of a academic department for the district. I am hoping the first step to this will be to become the department head for fifth grade on my campus and then moving towards becoming the English Language Arts and Reading department head. Eventually over time I hope to move into a more Reading Specialist position for a campus or even possibly a district. My ultimate goal is to move into the administration building and become a curriculum director for a district.…

    Principal for a Day

I have my own views about becoming the Principal of my school. I feel that the principal of the school should also be elected from the students. When we live in a democracy, why should we deny this right to the students? There should be a Students’ Council elected by the students themselves. Every class should send its own representative. These class representatives should form a Parliament. The Principal should be made responsible to them. The students are never consulted in the appointment of the teachers. I shall ask a candidate to teach the class only if the students would. Only those teachers, who can satisfy the students, would be selected.…
