The principal acknowledges that the schools vision of high expectations for all students, differentiation of learning styles for students and understanding cultural differences is critical for her students to succeed in school. The school uses a modified “flipped classroom” where the students receive the majority of the information from a software learning system. This is used to accommodate the many levels of performance across all three grades in the class at one time. The students are then able to have individualized help when needed from the teacher. It is not a truly flipped classroom as many of the students do not have access to computers or internet at home. The principal strongly supports a comprehensive system of learning. She promotes the necessary conditions for learning by providing a safe, caring, participatory, and responsive school climate to address the barriers to learning and teaching. She has done this through utilizing district and community resources. The principal has made sure that her schools do not “fall through the cracks” by welcoming district administration to visit sites to see the accomplishments of the students and to emphasize the importance of addressing the barriers to teaching and learning such as: bullying, disengagement, absenteeism and behavioral health
