Pro Gay Marriage

Stand Up For Your Rights and Love Whomever You Please!
When you think of gays or lesbians does it really bother you? Think to yourself, what are they doing to affect your life? Most of you would most likely say nothing at all. There is not a single piece of history that determines whether or not same sex marriage is right or wrong. There is absolutely no legal, logical, or governing reason that same sex couples cannot be married and it 's extremely unconstitutional in every way to tell them they can 't. Same sex marriage should be legal for a number of reasons, a few being, it 's no one else 's business if two men or two women want to get married, not allowing them to marry makes them seem inferior, and it rids them of their civil rights. Everyone is entitled to their constitutional rights: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
1924 was the year the fight for gay’s and gay marriage began. It was only until 2000 when allowing gay marriage became a big controversy, not only in America but also around the entire world. Over 1,100 rights and responsibilities are afforded to heterosexual couples through marriage. Denying them is a violation of religious and the main reason for denying marriage to gay couples is that all major religions consider homosexuality a sin. Love is over powering and that is all that should matter in marriage weather you are gay or not. As stated in the bible, Song of Solomon 8:6, 
”Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame (NIV).” When you think of America you should think of peace and equality, but instead we live in a nation of racism, sexism, and homophobia. Traditionally in this country marriage has been defined as a religious and legal commitment between a man and woman. Today, just because you are gay means you cannot enjoy the same freedoms that straight people enjoy in marriage.
In the book Gay marriage by Kate Burns, it states, "Who owns marriage? In other words, who defines marriage? Who allows marriage, and who enforces it?" (22) It 's wrong to tell two people who love each other that they cannot marry. Over 1,100 rights and responsibilities are offered to straight couples through marriage. Same sex couples just want the benefits of being married like everyone else and nowhere in the constitution does it say that’s wrong. By not allowing marriage we are depriving same sex couples of their rights to care for each other and provide for each other. A common married couple gets benefits on health, gets to make decisions that are best for their spouse in extreme cases, and gets to inherit their spouse 's belongings in death. Not allowing this because you are gay is a huge topic of inequality.
A gay couple deserves to have their civil rights fulfilled, just like women deserve to vote, they should also be allowed to get married. Civil Rights means the rights accorded to each and every citizen of the United States being equal and across the board to all citizens. As stated by Ron Paul, “You have to remember, rights don 't come in groups we shouldn 't have 'gay rights '; rights come as individuals, and we wouldn 't have this major debate going on. It would be behavior that would count, not what person belongs to what group.” When the topic of gay marriage comes up, the main point would be that the bible does not agree with it. According to the first amendment, the bible has no standing in American law. The right of gay marriage is the newest form of prejudice against its people. America has never truly let its people be free as we are told dating back to the beginning of our country we are making strides towards this but we are not there yet. First it was to deny women the right to vote, second was to deny African Americans there right to vote, own land and live peacefully with the whites and after the civil rights movement we have moved into denying gay marriage.
People will argue that you can’t reproduce when gay, but only a small percentage of people are gay, therefore reproduction is still happening. In fact, the number of child adoptions should increase since gay couples cannot pro-create. Many marriages produce no children at all and those people are given the same rights even if the two married individuals do not procreate. Many same sex couples either produce natural children or adopt and create new families. The desire or ability to procreate should not determine which rights a married couple should have. Think of it this way, if marriage is about reproduction, then infertile couples would not be allowed to marry. People will fight that it could weaken traditional family values, but a gay couple can be more family oriented and loving then a straight couple. Many people will also argue that children are safer in “normal” marriages. Marriage protects children and gives them certain benefits. Denying same sex couples marriage sometimes denies their children the medical and insurance benefits given to children of standard couples. Gay marriages are giving more opportunity to many of the foster and orphan children in the US and many times children raised in gay marriages can have tendencies to be more open to people which is what we need now a days since we live in a society that is shattered with judgment and hatred. Studies show that children raised by same sex couples are well adjusted and happy. Kids need good role models and loving parents and gender is a factor in neither of those.
I feel very strongly that gays should be allowed to marry. Gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, and transsexual people deserve to have the same rights as everyone else. Banning the issue in unfair, love is all that matters in marriage, and some gay families have certain family values that some straight marriages lack. Wouldn 't it be good to live in a nation of peace and equality? America will not truly be a free country until every American citizen is given equal opportunity and rights no matter your gender, race and sexual preference. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It 's not about setting rules, we 're all different and that 's what makes us special.
