The film industry relies on directors and producers to complete a film project. Directors are often the creative force behind the film while the producer are the business force. There are many similarities and differences between directors and producers. The similarities and differences entitle training, work environment, and tasks. Producers and directors have extensive training. Producers usually have a background in management. They tend to work for organizations. They start to work for theater management , agents, or management directors. Producer often do not get formal training however directors often get some form of formal training. Also directors often get experience by working for an experienced director. Directors like producers
also need management skills to be able to keep control over the staff and cast. Both often go to film school or get a bachelor’s degree in film. They experience a similar work environment. They work for long hours while having to work in stressful environments. They have to deal with changes in weather or having to deal with filming in bad weather. They often work on one assignment for one to six months. They can work irregular hours. They often have to travel to different locations. They have to arrive early to make sure everyone is safe or to make sure that everything is running smoothly. They experience unemployment while they are looking for their new project. After they are done filming they have to stay and take care of the post production. Producers often deal with the Business side of the film while the directors focus on the creative side.
They often have to deal with conflicts between actors and directors. Producers often set up the budget and get money from distribution companies to market projects and to finance projects. Their job is to get the rights to scripts, books, and other stories. Other tasks include having to hire directors, writers, actors, and other cast. Also they are involved in auditions and approving the final cast. The producer oversees the filming, editing, and takes care of the overall details. Producer usually do not work with actors. Unlike producers director work directly with actors. Like producers directors have a final say on who to cast for a movie. The director has complete control over the creative parts. He controls lighting, camera angles, and the set design.
He determines the mood and the tone of the film. The director deals with on set problems. The director and producer work together in post-production to polish the film and give the final touches before it is released to theaters. There are similarities and differences between directors and producers that help a film become made. Despite their differences without producers and directors films would never be made.
