The landline telephone is the service that I chose because it’s a service that is still on the market but is has declined to consumer appeal. Alexander Graham Bell invented and patented the first long distance landline telephone in 1876. It took 90 years after the first landline was installed to reach 100 million users worldwide. Although the landline has been around for a long time technology has improved over the years as well leaving the landline in the dust. The advanced technology has cause the landline telephone service to become obsolete. Several studies show that people prefer to have cell phones over landline telephones for the simple fact of convenience. The cell phone allows them to take their phones with them anywhere they go and never have to worry about missing a call. Discuss this product of service in terms of its current target market demographics using U.S. Census Data.
The target market of the landline telephone service is directed at all the adults that have homes, and businesses. The landline telephone service is utilized worldwide. In today’s technology world the current target market for the landline telephone service would be the older generation they feel that having their privacy is important but also need a way to communicate people when necessary. As the newer generation cannot wait till the newest phone is going to drop. The business world would also be one of the landline telephone service biggest target market. The telephone companies have done everything to try to appeal to consumers including dropping the prices and adding more features. According to the U.S. Census Data a record of 26.6 million US households don not use landlines and rely strictly on cell phones as of December 2010. A 17% increase since 2008. Polling organizers are expected to be the targets of the landline telephone service companies because they rely on the use of landlines because the federal law prohibits calls to cell
