The areas that I was the highest in were tell me that I prefer to study in light, warm places. I am persistent about getting my work done but love to be with Peers. I do best in a structured sitting with authority figures present. I am also a very kinesthetic and have high intake. This inventory also told me that I prefer quiet areas when I study, that I am not a very responsible person and that I am not a visual learner. If I could pick a time of day, I should pick my classes in the late morning or late afternoon because that is the time of day I perform the highest.
These sections were rated high because I like to be warm in general. I will wear sweatshirts in the middle of the summer time. When I study, I easily become tired so I find that I study better if I set upright, at my desk in a well lit area. I also find that if I study in the same place it helps me to better be able to concentrate. Because I am so easily distracted by people and other outside factors I have to find a high structured, quiet study area. The one thing that is contradicting about these factors is that the reason I am persistent is that if I keep …show more content…
trying at something it will eventually work out in my favor because I am very goal oriented yet motivation is one of the lower factors of this survey. I love to be around people, however the problem with this is I am easily persuaded by peer pressure to do other things rather than complete my homework. This is the reason that responsibility is one of the lowest factors in this inventory. The one thing that I find very wrong in this survey is that I am not a visual learner. I see this as being wrong because I always find myself drawing pictures in order to understand information. For example, in my notes if something is increasing or decreasing, I draw arrows in order to depict the information because it is easier for me to see a picture than read the text. On test in order to answer questions, I have to draw out the pictures from my notes. I am not good with hands on learning such as labs but yet I need pictures and diagrams in order to understand the information.
This survey was accurate except for the visual learning and kinesthetic learning styles. I feel that I am more responsible then they portray however the rest of the information is very correct. I feel like my study skills are good but what I need to improve on is avoiding outside factors that keep me from effectively studying.
I must stop giving into peer pressure and spend more time on my school work like I know I should be doing. To create the ideal study environment, I need to go to the library or somewhere quiet and well lit away from distractions in order to study. While your studies need your full attention, one must also be comfortable in order to be able to concentrate on the material. It helps me to create mind maps, flash cards or other visuals to help me retain the information. I must find an open time slot so that I can shut off my phone so that I can clear my mind of everything but the study material. Always studying in the same place helps us to remember the
information. I have also found it helpful to go to study groups because having the information repeated to you helps me to retain the information. In addition, sometimes they go over the lectures in a different manner that is easier for one to understand. Study groups also help because talking about the information helps me to retain it because when vocalizing it I find it easier to remember. Also, if you misunderstood some of the information your peers are there to correct your mistakes.
This semester I thought I didn’t have good study skills so I tried different methods of taking notes and multiple ways of studying in order to retain the information better but that did not work for me. The way I have found to work best is simply to sit down and try to memorize the information. Speaking and doing physical activities did not help me remember. Also, the book told us that be reading the information before the lecture was a good idea in order to better understand the lecture. However, I found that in classes such as chemistry if I tried to read the book and dissect the high level terminology it only made me more confused in the lecture because the way I comprehended it was not near the reality of the concepts.
