In my opinion, subordinates do not have to like their leader. However, the respect must be there in order for a leader to be effective. It is the responsibility of the leader to earn that respect. If you earn the respect of your peers and subordinates there will be a level of friendship even if it is minor. Employees and soldiers are very similar; if they respect and trust their leadership, they will work hard and be successful.

I do believe that I am a leader; in fact, I would say I am an outstanding leader. Throughout my career, I have served as a Team leader, Squad Leader, and Section Leader. I have led over seventy mounted and dismounted combat patrols in Afghanistan. Some of my responsibilities included;

    Not just from the subordinate but from the NCOs themselves. Trust and respect go together because there has been occasions when someone trusts a person, but has no respect for them. A Marine NCO has to trust and be trusted because they are the ones that are going to lead and work with the younger Marines. Subordinates should trust their NCOs to take care of them when they have a problem and NCOs should trust the subordinates will not skip chain-of-command. If trust is not there, it’s probably because of lack of respect. Trust makes small-unit leadership work, and small-unit leadership is one thing that’s always been big in our Marine Corps history and will always set us apart from everyone…

    There are many frameworks into which the term “leadership” may be defined. Merriam-Webster defines it as a position as a leader of a group, but also as the power or ability to lead other people. Everyone in the Army is required to be adaptable to any situation, which lends itself well to acquiring leadership skills. Leaders must be willing to adjust their lines of fire in order to…

    There are many definitions of leadership. The Collins English dictionary defines leadership as “the leader(s) of a party or group.” Yet true leadership is much more than that. A leader can be the chief executive officer of an organization, or a first year employee who leads his or her team to success behind the scenes. A leader might lead through official authority and power, yet just as often great leaders lead through inspiration, persuasion and personal connections. Teaching others to be a leader is a daunting task within itself (Pankaew, 2013).…

    However, I just know that being a leader is what I consider myself to be. I am a leader that wants what is best for the organization and what is best for all employees. I am a leader that believes you can never stop learning. Being honest, candid, having passion, respect, confidence, clarity, care, integrity, compassion, and able to engage employees, shows good leadership. Good leadership is having shared visions, humility, empowering, communication and being fearless; this is the type of leader that employees would want to lead them. These are all of what my personal philosophy of leadership is and more. When it comes to being a leader, I do not want to be just good, I want to be one of the best and at some point in my life, the…

    I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

    Friendship plays a big role in the success of leadership. A person should not bring or hold their “favorites” above any one when it comes to leadership just because they are your friend doesn’t make them the best person to complete your goal. A person should stay professional when around friends, but still treat the friends equal to the other subordinates. Seek to find the strengths of friendships among the group and do what is necessary to keep the job going. Don’t judge a person’s ability to tribute to the team because you don’t know them as well as the others around you.…

    It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. I have discovered much about fairness, compromise, and responsible qualities that are required to be a "good" leader. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.…

    A leader: a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This is the textbook definition of a leader although, is this the only way to define a leader? Can a leader be someone who, despite all odds against them, can come out on top, and inspire others to do to them same? Can a leader be someone who's life is filled with physical, as well as emotional pain, but see’s nothing but the best in everything she sees? Can a leader be someone who questions the status quo, and spits in the face of the social norm? Before researching this individual, I might have answer no to these questions. Although, through learning about the amazing and devastating journey Frida Kahlo faced through her life, I am forced to think otherwise.…
