According to Malcolm Gladwell, it takes approximately 10,000 hours to become world class at anything. If somebody worked 8 hours a day, five days a week, it would take 4.8 years for them to reach the 10,000 hour mark. If an athlete suddenly wasn’t allowed to play their sport, almost 5 years of their life would have been all for nothing.
Most professional athletes don’t have a backup plan in case they are ever forced to quit sports. According to StudentScholarships.org, an athlete requires the skills, experience, and technical knowledge associated with their sport but not any sort of degree whatsoever. That means that if they lost their career in sports they probably wouldn’t be able to get a reliable job that late in their life. The athletes need their jobs in order to remain self reliant.
Some people think that professional athletes should be banned from their sport because as role models, they set a bad example for young people. This perspective has a good point because young people tend to do the same sorts of things their role models do. However, these people fail to consider the fact that when the players pay their dues to society and turn their life around, they are actually setting a good example to the young people. They would be teaching them that everyone makes mistakes but it is still possible to fix
