Professional Nursing Role Analysis

For the purpose of this assignment and as per my experience during a previous clinical rotation, the professional nursing role that I have chosen to analyze is the Director of Nursing. I had the privilege of being precepted by the Director of Emergency Services at Coral Gables Hospital and during the preceptorship I gained tremendous insight into the duties and responsibilities of the role as my preceptor was very inclusive and willing to share her knowledge. Having experienced and partaken in the daily operational responsibilities of the role, I now have an affinity and a new appreciation for this particular nursing role as I witnessed first-hand the capabilities of influencing change in an organization. In this particular leadership role, a Director of Nursing has the ability to impact every aspect of a specific operation staring with the culture of the organization and setting new standards that would best impact patient safety and satisfaction. I also witnessed how changes in personnel are primordial in building from the ground up a team that best represents your leadership priorities and that would be responsive to ensuring that the agenda set by the director is executed appropriately.
Within any organization patient satisfaction is paramount and as a Director of Nursing, one will be intricately involved in tracking, quantifying, and analyzing the patient satisfaction scores in order to identify areas of improvement.
