Driving down the street we don’t always pay attention to signs, buildings, or street names. I do it every day. On my way to school and work there are dozens of businesses and signs that are just blurs in the corner of my eye. One business that I have always noticed was the furniture store, H3 Home + Decor, off of Harkrider Street. Every time I drive by I see the larger than life billboard on the side of the building. The billboard is a bright green living room set that attracts the eye of nearly everyone driving by.…

The Tet offensive began January 30 1968. The battle was one of many during the Vietnam War. There were many countries involved in the war; one side was Viet cong and North Vietnamese against the South Vietnamese and the United States with their allies. The battle got its name from the Vietnamese New Year, called Tet; it was when the first major attack took place. There were many minor attacks throughout the battle. Most of the attacks caused the U.S. along with their allies to lose power over states, they quickly reassembled and fought right back gaining back control. The U.S. inflicted many casualties upon the North Vietnamese. A particular battle, the Battle of Hue had lasted for several months and the North Vietnamese particular took full control of this battle, executed thousands. The victory had a strong effect on U.S. government; the public were shocked not thinking the enemy was capable of such a victory. The public showed zero support for the government, putting them in a situation where they had to negotiate to end the war.…

During the early 1900s, the practice of medical science became accepted in our society. Many of the Swedish massage was mingled in with those of medical doctors and medical practices. (A type of "mechano-therapy" emerged of a combination with other therapist preformed by a physician or a nurse's assistant.) Over time, these practices were absorbed into what would be general medicine. In the 1920s Masseurs and Masseuses had lost most of their market to doctors. They mainly found work with wealthy individuals who wanted a general, relaxing form of massage. After World War ll, a group of massage operators formed the American Association of Masseurs and Masseuses. This later became the forerunner of today's American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). The goal of these associations is to raise the status of massage as a unique and effective treatment for healing. In the 1980s the AMTA was formed. The first thing they did was establish a code of ethics and change their titles from masseurs and masseuses to massage therapist. Now the profession of massage is enjoying renewed vigor and influence in alternative medicine. Recent trends have pointed the continuing promise and growth of massage therapy as a health care career.…

The health care industry has a variety of policies and standards regarding coverages for alternative medicine modalities. From a sociological standpoint, unconventional, alternative, or unorthodox therapies refer to medical practices that are not in conformity with the standards of the medical community. The New England Journal of Medicine defines unconventional therapies, "as medical interventions not taught widely at U.S. medical schools or generally available at U.S. hospitals. Examples include acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage therapy"(1993). Coverages vary widely among conventional carriers, preferred providers as well as the omnipresent Health…

Reflexology is based on the principle that certain parts of the body reflect the whole. Reflex points, which are related to all parts of the body, can be found in the feet, hands, face and ears. These points respond to pressure, stimulating the body 's own natural healing process. The body starts progressively clearing blockages, re-establishing energy flows and balancing it, resulting in better health. Reflexology is a holistic healing practice used to help promote health and well-being. Reflexology relaxes while stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms.…

In my nursing practice I frequently care for long term elderly residents on ventilators and who suffer from stage 3 or 4 pressure ulcers, diabetic, venous ulcers etc. Instead of simply providing pain medications and wound treatment to ease their pain or giving medications to relax them, I wanted to learn ways to enhance the comfort of these residents. This led me to learn more about Katherine Kolcaba’s theory of comfort. I found her theory to be useful in understanding the theory of comfort. Hence as a nurse, it became important for me to analyze, evaluate and research more on its applicability in the world of nursing and also in other health care disciplines.…

The alternative therapy I chose to research was Massage therapy. The Oxford Dictionary of Psychology defines massage therapy as “manual manipulation of soft tissue to promote physical and mental health and well-being. Forms of massage therapy can be traced back to ancient Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Hindu, and Japanese civilizations” (“massage therapy”, 2008). I chose to do this topic for my annotated bibliography because I am interested in learning more about the benefits of massage and to understand ways of healing pain and discomfort through touch and manual manipulation. I believe that massage therapy is not only helpful in the relief of pain and discomfort but also helps in the emotional maintenance of romantic relationships.…

When it comes to portraying our product in the media we chose to attack the most commonly used forms, which are print and television, while also utilizing new media and internet advertising as our media vehicles. In terms of overall advertising expenditures, media advertising is still dominated by Press and television, which are of comparable size by value of sales. Our brand is popular enough to wear people recognize it when placed in television commercials and printed media, however this only makes coming up with more creative advertising endeavors more challenging. One of the biggest contributing factors to knowing how to accurately promote our product is knowing what media outlet to use and who exactly to market to.…
