Promotion Letter

Dear honorable Consul, The purpose of this letter is to request an increase in my annual salary due to my four years with the consulate. (I) Kristyn Penaloza work at the Consulate of Panama in Houston since August 2009. In 2010, I received my first promotion to the National Vessels Department and in 2012, I received my last ascent as the assistant in the International Vessels Department. With the economic downturn that exists in the United States today, most of our needs have become more expensive. Due to the increase of our daily basic needs, such as food, housing, and oil, I am requesting for a salary increase in my current position for my hard work.
Food prices in the United States have increased significantly. For example, going out to eat for lunch costs about 10.00 USD. This comes out to 50.00 USD per week and 200.00 USD monthly. If you include breakfast and dinner than the cost increases two-fold! The rise in food prices is a major factor that is most strongly affecting our population. Sometimes, due to the many hours of work put in a day, I do not have the time to cook therefor picking up food is the better option. However, in the long run, this hurts my pocket. The same goes for many people here in the US. The majority of a family’s budget includes money spent on housing, transportation, food, insurance, healthcare, entertainment, apparel and other expenditures.
Today in the United States, specifically Houston, Texas, there are several housing options; it all depends on the needs of each family. For example, the basic cost for housing in the metropolitan area for a one to two bedroom apartment ranges from 1,500.00 USD to 2,300.00 USD monthly. However, in the rural areas such as Sugar Land or Katy, a three-bedroom house starts at 1,600 USD. This affordable price is why we live where we do now but the downside, it is further away from my job and therefor money spent on gas increases. A four-bedroom house in the new construction homes in Richmond is around 1,300 USD.
There has been a rise in the cost of oil and its derivatives including transport. Because oil is an essential raw material in the production process, the price increase hurts the entire production chain in business. This results in higher costs which are then passed on to the final price of products. This then affects our daily transportation, either with cars or public buses. Today, filling our gas tank is approximately 50 USD or more, depending on what kind of car one drives. I live in Sugarland and every day I have to drive approximately 30 miles back and forth to get to work. This comes out to about 100 USD every two weeks for me. Therefor an increase in my salary can greatly help me.
During my four years at the General Consulate of Panama in Houston, my work and performance has been admirable, dependable and accurate. Corresponding, I take this opportunity to inquire about a raise for the calendar year of 2014. In order to achieve this, I ask to be promoted to be Director of International Ships, having an annual salary of 43,200 USD, plus 3 percent commission for each of our ships. In the past years of 2011 and 2012, I achieved top gross numbers for the completion of clients’ portfolios, increasing the business by twenty percent. I place emphasis in providing exceptional customer service to my clients on a daily basis. As a result, business has steadily grown at a yearly rate of 100 percent. The Consulate of Panama in Houston is now leading in all of Latin America. I would be honored to have the director position for the next five years of government. With the assistance of my co-workers, I am certain we can attain 50 percent of the fleet from the port of Houston and eventually produce 10 percent of our profits at the consulate. Life always gives us experiences and opportunities and from my experience, thanks to the Consulate of Panama in Houston, I look forward to a new opportunity to continue to grow in your hands.
