During World War Two, African American participation was especially crucial when defeating Germany and Japan. The great need for African American was noted early on when A Philip Randolph telegrammed Pres. Roosevelt to press for the end of military segregation. In the telegram Randolph suggest that if military discrimination doesn’t end there would be a march on Washington. Typically African Americans protesting wouldn’t be significant; however, the threat was significant because the possibility of tarnishing Americans image during a time that we need the support from as many countries…
Even though the bill C-51 is more likely a violation of freedom and can be used as a power of dictatorship, but the purpose of Harper’s government were good: protect Canadian residents from the danger of terrorism, by setting certain groups of people on the watching list, it could reduce the rate of terrorism and crime activities. So people could living in a society which is safer, more peaceful.…
While Opponents argue that if prop 63 is passed it will be a waste of public resources and divert the resources of our law enforcement officers, proposition 63 should be passed because it will ban large capacity magazines and a background check will be required for large ammunition sales. If this Prop is passed it would prevent any more mass shootings from happening. Currently 24 mass shootings have happened in California, because there are no background checks when selling ammunition on the streets or easily on the internet. Since these mass shootings have happened, prop 63 would decrease the amount of mass shootings in California by allowing people who are mentally stable and not criminals to own a gun. Large capacity magazines should…
Prop 51,gives more money to charter schools but Californians already pay $2 billion each year on state school bonds therefore, If this proposition is passed this could cost an additional $500 million each year, money the state can’t afford. What truly matters is the attendance rate, if more students are present then schools get more money without having to increase taxes. People should vote no on Proposition 51 for one reason and that is taxes because California is already in debt and paying back taxes is a major issue. The annual budget is more than the schools combined, these schools are required to pay back or they may lose the education for students such as books, desks, chairs, and most of all, facilities, and schools have to do funds and…
The Era is an amendment that is connected to the 1848 women’s suffrage movement in which they were trying to fight for equal rights. The Era is meant it help them achieve their dream of gender equality by specifically stating in the constitution that all women have equal rights under the U.S constitution. In relation to the 14th amendment the Era addresses the issue of equality but unlike the 14th amendment it specifically addresses the inequality between both genders. I am in favor of the Era because it will guarantee equality to women and protect them under the laws of the U.S constitution. If the Era passes it will resolve issues such as equal pay, providing a clear judicial standard for deciding cases on sex discrimination, and it will prevent congress from weakening or replacing existing laws on women’s rights.…
Texas is the best state and I dare you to find a flaw with it. Well, alright, I might be a little biased when it comes to deciding upon the best state is in the U. S. of A. I have actually found a small blemish that comes along with the state of Texas. This constitution of Texas is a curse and a blessing and I would love to analyze the structural good and bad of the Executive branch in the state of Texas.…
Amendment 13 is the one that has made big impact on me. I don’t know where I would be if slavery were not abolished. I may be a slave or just horribly discriminated against because of the Civil Right Movement not taking place. Without this Amendment major accomplishment would have never happened. Just think Martin Luther King Jr. may have never happened or Obama may have never become president. Other things important to history because of it was The barrier an American sports all the Great African American Athletes brought in to shite sport leagues like Jackie Robinson, Jesse Owens etc. I believe people would be angrier and a lot less tolerant then how they are today. I think back then eventually African Americans eventually…
If you hear people discussing the Fair Tax Act but aren't yet familiar with it, you'll probably wonder what the fuss is all about. One side says that the act will solve a lot of the United States's taxation issues, while the other points out that it will bring on a whole new set of problems.…
The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on July 9th, 1868. It helped grant citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States (Primary Documents in American History).” One of the reasons the amendment was made to help former slaves become citizens after the civil war. They were being denied the right to become citizens after slavery had been abolished. One of the main points in the Amendment was that states can not denounce land, freedom or life from any person or citizen in the United States without a trial. Birthright Citizenship was another major part, as it stated that any person born in the US, a US territory or a US military base or was born abroad to an American citizen who has lived at least 5 years in the US, automatically became a citizen. People who are under oath from another country cannot be in office for any position. The Fourteenth Amendment covers a diverse range of subjects, as it has been cited the most out of any…
Section 187 (1) (f) basically states that it is automatically unfair to dismiss an employee if the reason for the dismissal is the employees’ race or age not only those reason, also factors like gender, sex, ethics, sexual orientation, disability, religion, political opinion, culture, language, marital status, basically being dismissed for aspects that relate to who you are or what you are instead of the job that you do.…
The authority of the Constitution, its ability to control our lives and enforce our laws, loses its legitimacy if we do not have principles that anchor it securely to reality. The Constitution was seen as a document that strikes a delicate balance between government power to accomplish the great ends of civil society and individual liberty. James Madison created the Federalist Papers, if men were angels, no government would be necessary. This was the beginning of the first amendments to the Constitution called the Bill of Rights. Madison opposed the inclusion of a Bill of Rights in the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson became convinced that judges enforced rights are among the necessary against tyranny.…
One Voting Amendment is that they lowered the voting age down. You now only have to be eighteen years of age, instead of the age prior. This is the 26th amendment, and was created during the cold, brutal Vietnam War. People decided that if someone older than eighteen could go to war, and die bravely for their country, they could also vote the next leader.…
Throughout the historical aspects of the government of United States, there has been one addition to the political aspect that is considered as one of the most controversial and debated; the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment was established on December 15, 1791 with nine other to the United States’ Constitution. It was proposed by James Madison soon after the Constitution was ratified in sought of more power to the state militias. (Brooks). This Amendment also served an important factor between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. It was a form of compromise between the two groups as to who should have more power. The Amendment states, “ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people…
The ban of handguns in the state of Arizona will definitely change the criminal situation for better and save a lot of lives even for the price of state budget cuts. Therefore, we all should support such a solution of the existent problem in order to make Arizona a safer place to live. However, a handgun is an issue that needs to be solved as soon as possible because people do not need to lose each other. Thus, losing innocent people will make the life harder than expected. Law funders need to find way to make life better for everyone who lives on its…
As the years go by the amount of children being tried as adults is increasing and what many don’t see is we have to make a change to that. The juvenile justice system was created in the late 1800s to improve the U.S. policies regarding youth offenders. It is believed youth could be rehabilitated and needs to be protected and kept separate from the adult criminals. But when California passed Prop 21 the policy changed and young offenders were punished rather than rehabilitated. According to The League Of Women Voters information packet:…
