Proposal Philanthropy
Philanthropy -‐ Research Paper Outline Lisa Hebenstreit Research Question: Why are consulting firms growing of importance in the third sector and are there country specific differences? In today’s society the need of giving increases. This development is reflected by more and more philanthropic foundations coming into life, which enable investing in a broad variety of social concerns. As the consultancy services comprise not only providing advice to individual donors but also providing strategic and management advice to organizations, I would like to examine which kind of consultancy service is requested most and underlying reasons for this trend. Google.org brings a new approach to corporate philanthropy, one that provides freedom and flexibility while also introducing new issues to work out. As a “for-profit charity”, Google.org has an opportunity to create a charitable organization that is self-reliant and not constantly scrambling to raise funds through donations. The biggest problem with this strategy is that they face the same set of rules and objectives as a regular business would face; mainly, taxation and the desire for profitability. Dr. Brilliant faces a difficult challenge in making Google.org truly about the “charity” aspect in spite of the for-profit status of the company.…
