Pros And Cons Of Being Rich Essay
“If you could pick between being poor and being rich, what would you pick?” Six out of eleven of the senior said they would rather be rich. In a way, it is worst to be rich than to be poor, yet the majority of them picked being rich. Is too much money a bad thing? The fear of thinking your money will be stolen is as if you’re in a jail. When you have too much money you focus more on self than others. You become greedy because you never think you have enough money. Money should never be an abundance. When you have a lot of money, people know who to steal from. Freedom is a universal desire, and people think they can get that by having a lot of money. Although in a way this may be true, the reality is the freedom they will get is temporary; …show more content…
Having good conditions to buy anything makes a person very self-centered. They spend a lot of money on things they don’t even need; that just makes them happy. When a person is born rich, many times they don’t appreciate their possessions. God gave them this gift to bless others, not to keep for themselves. What God made to be a blessing became curse. Money gives you pleasure, but it doesn’t last long. We will be happy on the outside, but on the inside we are empty. This emptiness causes us to want more and more money. We don’t think we ever have enough money, we collect all the money to ourselves to reach our goal, but we don’t realize our goal doesn’t have an end. This greed keeps us away from God. We should keep all our treasures in heaven, not collect it here on Earth.
First Timothy 6:9 says: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” God is telling us ahead of time that we shouldn’t try to become rich. If we have extra money, we should share it with someone else because there is always someone that needs it more than us. Happiness does not come from money, but from God. We don’t need to worry about being poor because God has promised He will always provide for His

When I was younger, I thought money ruled everything but in reality it doesn’t. Working hard doesn’t apply anymore in today’s economy. Most of the people who are wealthy have grown into the money or inherited from their ancestor. People hold the wealthy to a higher standard/power therefore they think they are better than the middle/lower class. Even though money is a great asset to have, it can be a liability. As I read the essay about Tim Blixseth, he was an individual who was not impressed or got excited about how much money he and his family had. He wanted to be low key, an average middle class person who worked hard for what he got not just given. In the story “Living It” he tells us how he would wake up in different locations each night.…

Many people are manipulated by money and material possessions. Scott Fitzgerald shows how wealth creates social class which can ruin relationships. Mainly because you buy stuff just to show off then you get full of yourself. Just as Tupac said”we all gonna die, we bleed from similar veins,” no matter what we accomplish on earth, we’re going to die so in the end all of it won’t mean a thing. Matthew 6:19-21 says “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” All that matters is what we store up in…

In chapter six, Luxurious Poverty, Kraybill states “An obsession with possessions enslaves us to the demon of worry” (pg. 102). This means that the Jesus despises greed because there are dangers in having too much property and wealth. Material things and money can become a distraction and can cause us to replace God in our priorities. In the Upside Down Kingdom, a man’s wealth will be measured by the love, mercy and compassion he has for the poor and hungry, not by his possessions or money he has. This is a reminder that we should all humble ourselves and be blessed that we have the opportunity to help others instead of being greedy by celebrating your wealth for our own benefit.…

Money and gems can not buy happiness, but only comfort. For example Prof. Howell says, “And yet we still keep on buying material things,” He says ,“Because they’re tangible and we think we can keep on using them.”(Prof. Howell 2008). This tells us that people will buy jewelry and furniture because they’re tangible and will last a while. This also proves that people will buy material goods because they think it will last longer than a cruise or a flight to Hawaii. Dr. Dean says “People's’ desires for material possessions at the same, or greater rate, than their salaries… this means that despite considerably have more luxurious possessions, people end up no happier.”(Dr. Dean 2008) This…

Since “seeing is believing,” Lapham decided to speak on how “the visible signs of wealth testify to an inward state of grace.” All of the “property” that someone has to own to show that he/she is happy goes spirit deep with “the use of money as currency of the soul” (Source F). To help his fellow brother out, Andrew Carnegie states that “this change, however, is not to be deplored, but welcomed as highly beneficial.” He could not be any more right! We should totally use every penny of our income to buy things that we will maybe use twice in our lifetime to show off all of the progress that we have…

It true that having plenty of money provides you with financial stability, and it means having less stress and no worry in your life. It not good to make people feel bad about their own personal finances. How we spend our money is our own choice. There is a certain amount of things you should show around people who can’t buy expensive things. But you shouldn't classify someone as a person based on how they are showing their wealth, or lack of it? My family being together, having the love of my boyfriend, and having friends me would makes me feel rich.…

Matthew 6: 24-30 (part of The Sermon on the Mount) states that “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” This serves as an argument that you should focus on serving the Lord, not on having wealth and property. You should not worry about materialistic things because they…

This never ending pursuit of money has made the society a selfish one. People forget that there are many things that money can't buy. A Chinese proverb summarizes this argument very well by saying that money can buy a house but it cannot make a home, that it can not buy time, sleep knowledge, health, respect and a good life only the material aspects can be bought but not ones that come from within. Stephen R. Covey in his book ' seven habits of highly effective people also mentions that some of us tend to be centered around money and so our sense of security and happiness is directly related to how much money we have and since its human nature to never be satisfied with what one has he is likely to remain unhappy most of the time. Even a huge increase in wealth is unlikely to satisfy such a person. For this purpose we need to alter our centres to what we really want at the end of our…

The American Heritage Dictionary states that rich means possessing great material wealth. Also it says rich can mean having an abundant supply. I decided to go with the latter. I believe that all of us here in America are rich to some degree. I mean most of us have more than we could ever need in this lifetime. We come home, open the door and turn on the lights. There are people in other countries that don’t have that luxury. And while we are talking about luxuries, let’s add running water, clean clothes, three meals a day, and the list goes on indefinitely. Biblically, it says that God loves all people and he gives us blessings. When we have material wealth we are to bless others by sharing the wealth, and when we do, God will continue to bless us.…

Aristotle describes this lifestyle as being in a way “forced on him” (5) because he uses money as a means to other ends such as items that give pleasure or power to gain status and honor. Even though it seems obvious, there are still many people who chase money for the sake of having more money. This can be saddening because these people never realize that there is more to life than green pieces of paper; however in this American capitalist society, one is taught from a young age to strive to be successful and make lot of money. While money is still necessary in order to survive, it is not the money that we should be aiming at, but the lifestyle that having sufficient money permits us to…

The book of Proverbs is a great book of advice for believers, but its principles are spoken of in a general manner. For example, the book of Proverbs speaks about the subject of laziness. It says that laziness leads to being poor while diligence leads to wealth (10:4; 20:13), but also it may be from corruption and injustice (13:23). Therefore, we are told to be diligent as ants when we work. However, there are also proverbs against being wealthy without the love of God in our lives. There is no point to have money if we do not have God. For example, “Great wealth without the peace of God has little benefit” (15:16; 28:6). Also, “wealth gained through corruption will eventually be judged” (22:16, 22-23; 28:8, 20). There are so many proverbs on wealth and poverty, but the general idea is that working hard leads to wealth, and laziness and corruption leads to poverty. These are general principles that can be followed but are not always perfect in design.…

I have seen that living in luxury is pointless and not only that but it can effect the way one lives for God. When you live with just the necessities, you show yourself that there is more to entertainment and comfort in life, that seeking material wealth all the time, Is a waste of time and the precious gift of life which God has bestowed upon us to live for His glory and not our own. Gods will is indeed inedible. Nothing we can do will prevent what He has in store for us in this life and the next. When we do follow Gods will and obey Him, much joy and peace will pursue those who follow Christ. Blessings abound in the righteous living of the one who obeys and hears God.…

These are some reasons why a lack of material possessions and money affect people today. One reason people become obsessed with money is that they become slaves. It leaves them worried all the time. One common thing they do is that they try to accomplish impossible goals with money. The impossible goals such as wanting to build the biggest house in the world, making the biggest car, and just making something so crazy that it in reality becomes impossible.…
