The left has good ideas in theory but they just don’t work in real life situations sometimes. They have to be so politically correct that they fight for problems that sound great but when it really comes down to it they aren’t huge issues compared to other things. Why fight racism and sexism in America when most of this country is very accepting of both different races and have men and women treated very equally. If the left decided to fight sexism in the middle east and in countries where women have rights that are microscopic compared to what they have here it would be completely different. Do I think that the left is fighting for many of the right things? Do I believe that their hearts are in the right place? Yes of course they are. Should someone be discriminated against in theory because they are a minority? Of course not. In theory, many things work but there are reasons why some people feel more afraid when they see people of a middle eastern background on a plane. Does that make them racist? Definitely, but is there anything wrong with using your instincts and thinking about the past in relation to…

Despite the Liberals horrific results in the 2018 provincial election, if given the chance, I would still vote for them. This central-left political party led by Kathleen Wynne had been in power in Ontario for over 15 years. Kathleen Wynne is the first female premier of Ontario and the first openly LGBT premier in Canada. She was first elected to public office as a Toronto District School Board Trustee in 2000. She subsequently was elected to the Provincial Legislature in 2003.…

Some of the things that I agree with on the republican side is their stance on abortion and gun control. I agree that things such as Planned Parenthood should be shut down. I feel as if a person should not be able to abort a baby just because they want to. There are better options such as adoption, for people to turn to rather than just getting rid of a baby…

The challenge to a variety of political and social issues distinctly characterizes the post World War II (WWII) era, from the mid 1940’s through the 1970’s, in the United States. These issues included African-American civil rights, women’s rights, the threat of Communism, and America’s continuous war effort by entering the Cold War immediately after the end to WWII. These debated issues led to the birth of multiple social movements, collectively referred to as the New Left, rooted in liberalism. In response to the New Left, a strong brand of conservatism, collectively referred to as the Right, arose to counteract these movements. Despite opposing ideology and convictions, both the New Left and the Right interchangeably used righteous language of freedom, morality, Christianity, and human rights, particularly in the issues of African-American civil rights, women’s rights, Communism, and the U.S. war effort in the Cold War, to justify and promote each of their respective agendas.…

Conservatism is defined to be “a set of political beliefs that include a limited role for the national government in helping individuals and in the economic affairs of the nation, as well as support for traditional values and lifestyles” (Sidlow & Henschen, 2016). During the 1950s and 1960s, conservatives emerged in opposition to Roosevelt’s New Deal. Conservatives are found on the right wing of the political spectrum, so they are in favor of limited government intervention, the free enterprise system, individual liberties, and retaining their traditional American values and beliefs. In today’s society, the population is divided between Democrats and Republicans based on their preferences. Both political parties utilize mass media to express and promote those opinions to the general audience.…

The Nativists are Americans that are working to stop foreign influence in America. They have engaged in anti-immigrant practices such as: turning away immigrants looking for jobs, not allowing Catholics and foreigners to hold a position in office, they also want to create a 21 year waiting period to become a citizen. These people are also called the "Know-Nothing Party" They oppose allowing Catholic Immigrants to hold office because they believe allowing them in office will allow the Pope to have a hold in America and eventually take away the freedom we Americans fought for. They don’t want to risk giving power to anyone who’s not “native” because the country already fought so much for freedom and don’t want to jeopardize…

The Democrats tend to lean toward pro-gun control. Supports the rights of “responsible” gun owners. Support of background checks and closing loopholes. Keeping specific weapons out of the hand of citizens. Democrats vary on the issue of gun control and have different ideas on how to resolve the issue on guns. Phoebe Maltz Bovy from New Republic proposed the solution of banning all guns. This position is a new position on gun control and would be considered far left. She explains the obvious difficulties of doing this would be that it violates civil liberties, but that there needs to be shift on gun control. The idea of this is to prevent shootings, which is the idea of gun control as well. The position held by Jill Lepore from The New Yorker is that we need gun control and she explains why. Democrats would fall under the same position as Lepore, which is the need for need for gun control. Lepore shows that facts about guns in the United States and reflects why there is a need for more gun control. She also…
