Symbolic Interactionist Theory:
According to the text, divorced individuals experience lower levels of psychological well being. Those people who are divorced have
poorer self concepts than those who remain married. The reasons for this is because with divorce also comes lower social attachment, lower emotional support and increased economic hardship. (Mooney, et al, 2013).

In the article, Psychological and Emotional Aspects of Divorce by Kathleen Corcoran, the author discusses the affects that divorce have on both men and women. The decision to end a relationship can tramatic, chaotic and filled with contradictory emotions. Oftentimes there is one person in the relationship who annunciates the divorce. Where you annunciated the divorce or not will have a huge impact on how the divorce affects you. Healing for divorce individuals will involve acceptance, looking at the future, taking ownership in ones actions and acting with integrity.(Corcoran, 1997). From my own experience I find the authors view on the healing process to be very accurate. I can not change how the world will label me but I do have control over how I allow my divorce will affect my life.
