The Art of Living Consciously

What does it mean to live consciously? To live consciously means to take every aspect of your life and try to look deeper into what is going on. In his book, Branden tries to take different aspects of life and try to explain to the reader how it is that we can live consciously. In the beginning, Branden starts off with the simple things to address and then moves his way up throughout the book to explain the more complicated things we deal with in our daily lives. What does it really mean to live consciously? We know that to live consciously really means to take control of the situation that is in front of us, to take control of our life, making a right decision that we actually think about and not a choice that one makes us go into because how is that living consciously if someone is making our choices? Most importantly, living consciously is to live a life that we want to live and not a life that we are forced into by another person. What does Nathaniel Branden want to show by living consciously and actually writing this book? For us to actually live a conscious life, we need to be aware of what is going on around us at all times and not just say that this is meant to happen or that is meant to happen to us just because that is life. That isn’t the case when it comes to this book, Branden wants to show us how to live a simpler and easier life with knowing the simple guidelines that he points out in his book. Is it easy to live consciously? I would think not. People think that if they think more about what they are doing, it means that they are starting to live a conscious life but in essence, they really are not. It does not take one day to realize that you can live this way. But what are some of the ways that we could

“If you don’t speak up, people will take advantage of you”(Simon 43). This quote is the best definition of what life really is. In life if you do not speak for yourself, people will push you around and take advantage of you. If you want something done right in this world, you have to do it yourself. Depending on others is what others want, but that dependency will take over your life and it will become something that is not yours anymore.…

The vestibular sense is the sense of body movement and position, including the sense of balance. During the pep rally the cheerleaders use their vestibular sense while performing their routine. Interposition is a monocular visual cue where two objects are in the same line of vision but one is covering part of the other making the concealed object seem further away. When the students are organized by their color shirts to form the school flag, some students have to be positioned in front of others making the other students seem further away to make the flag shape. The occipital lobe is located in the back portion of the brain and has the primary visual cortex which interprets visual stimuli and information. Each class has a different colored shirt which can only be identified by the occipital lobe. The sympathetic nervous system, part of the autonomic nervous system provides quick responses to threats such as increased heart rate and perspiration. The cheerleaders sympathetic nervous system is used while performing their dance routine causing an increased heart rate and sweating. The afterimage effect is a visual illusion where the retinal impressions are still visible after the removal of a stimulus. The tshirts flag can be seen if someone stared at it long enough even afterwards for a brief moment. Sensory adaptation is our brains way of ignoring old stimuli and focusing on new stimuli. During the pep rally students can switch from listening to some students sing to hearing the band play. Sound localization is the ability to recognize low and high frequency sounds from a given source. The students are able to tell what sound like the music or singing is coming from. The Gestalt concept of similarity is the way we group things together based on similar aspects like sound and shapes. The colored T shirts are grouped together to form one single flag shape.…

However, according to yourself it is only through acceptance of our responsibility that we may live in authenticity. To be responsible, to live authentically, means intentionally to make choices about one’s life and one’s future, as you had stated. Such choices are made most efficaciously, by becoming betrothed in the world and by selecting a fundamental project, one that would mobilize and direct all of one’s life energies and permit one to make extemporaneous choices. It would be through this project that the individual creates a world that does not yet exist and thus gives meaning to his or her own life.…

People ultimately seek experience. They believe seeking experience is their true meaning of life. They want something to remember and something to live for and at the same time we do this to resonate from our inner self because from experience we gain knowledge. This could be a reason many of the 21st century go towards their quest for experience and not knowledge. 3. What is Campbell’s definition of “consciousness”? How does this consciousness define the…

Living is about making choices. The choices people make shape their lives for better or worse. Even the decision not to choose has its effects, often not wanted. But the individual who chooses to make positive choices and to act accordingly is more likely to see his or her life reflect his or her beliefs and desires. Usually the individual who chooses to take action is also willing to face the risks and obstacles that such choices involve.…

Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”. He understood that although a person is breathing, he is not truly alive unless he is living for a purpose. A good life is one that is lived with the intention of constantly bettering oneself and the world in which they live. Unfortunately, this life can only be attained by making sacrifices. Time and independence are both expenses that must be paid in order to live a meaningful, and therefore good, life.…

The true meaning of life is found only through one's happiness. Life can have over a million meanings this way, but happiness is the key to your personal answer. By choosing the path that you want to take a walk down in life, you you're choosing the one that will make you happy. For instance, Thoreau had a lifestyle lived relatively in the forest. It's what made him happy. Through this, he enjoyed living since he had went down the path that he chose causing him to live the life he imagined.…

From this habit it says that as human beings we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions. Part of our self-awareness is understanding our Circle of Concern, our range of concern which we have no mental or emotional involvement. A Circle of Influence is inside the Circle of Concern reflecting the things over which we have control. Self determination, choice, and the power is response to stimulus, conditions and circumstances. Proactive people focus efforts in the Circle of Influence to work on the things they can do something about. The you have the reactive people who focus on the Circle of Concern, the weakness of people, the problems in the environment and things they have no control over. I really like what is said in the book 'We are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of those actions'. I think it is very true no matter what or how you think. Working on yourself first instead of other conditions you can better influence the outcome.…

    Do We Define Our Lives

Over the last decade or so people have begun to make a shift into accepting a new way of looking at the world that we live in – the belief that is making this impact is that you create your own life and, in some respects, you are in charge of your own destiny. This system of beliefs became known as the “New Age Movement”, however it's really not all that new. The “law of attraction”, as it's also known, has been around perhaps nearly as long as humans have been able to have reasonable thoughts. In fact, there's a quote from Buddha saying, “All that we are is a result of what we have thought.” This law of attraction has only gained popularity recently because of the emergence of books like The Secret into popular culture that seemed to take the world by storm. As with anything that becomes hugely popular, it has varied from being widely accepted to being strongly criticized. There are numerous authors who have written books instructing readers how to “tap into the universe” and use the law of attraction to bring things into your life that you want. Conversely, there are just as many who criticize this new way of thinking as being lazy, selfish, and causing people to not take responsibility for the actual work needed to achieve their goals. Perhaps the biggest criticism of the New Age movement comes unsurprisingly from the Christian community, who claim that the idea of you being in control of your own life takes away from the teachings that are portrayed in the Bible – that God is is ultimately in control and that we should leave things completely up to Him. However, even in books guiding people to understand the law of attraction, they use quotes from the Bible or use the name “God” to describe the force that is helping people achieve their best lives. It's hard not to get caught up in something that claims that we can “attract” great things into our lives with little or no effort, or to get…

Way 2: In this way of life, the individual for the most part goes it alone, assuring himself of privacy in living quarters, having much time to himself, attempting to control his own life. Emphasis is on self-sufficiency, reflection and meditation, knowledge of oneself. Intimate associations and relationships with social groups are to be avoided, as are the physical environment. One should aim to simplify one’s external life, to moderate desires which depend on physical and social forces outside of oneself. One concentrates on refinement, clarification, and self-direction. Not much is to be gained by living outwardly. One must avoid dependence upon persons or things; the center of life should be found within oneself.…
