Did you know that over 4 million dogs are bred in puppy mills each year? Puppy mills are cruel to dogs and very inhumane. Dogs don't experience their lives like dogs are supposed to. I think puppy mills should be illegal and shut down. What are puppy mills? Puppy mills are breeding facilities that produce puppies in large numbers. Puppy mills contribute to millions of unwanted dogs who are euthanized each year in the United States. Often the puppies are sold directly to the public via the Internet, newspaper ads, or at the mill itself. In other cases they are sold to brokers and pet shops across the country. Don't think that puppy mills just are homes to hundreds of abused dogs. They are also breeding farms for monkeys, miniature horses, swans, turkeys, a pig, dogs and cats. They treat the animals with no respect towards the animals, they disgust me. It’s estimated that 4 million dogs are bred in puppy mills every year. In Philadelphia on October 2, 2008, SPCA agents raided a Lehigh County dog kennel. They found hundreds of animals, from hamsters to horses, crammed in every corner of the disgusting property. " SPCA agents estimated that there were 800 to 1,000 animals, making the raid almost certainly the largest in state history."~ Philadelphia Inquirer. In Newport, Washington on December 31, 1996 dog rescue volunteers found about 230 dogs abused in a puppy mill and they found 15 dead dogs. In the article, it stated that the dogs were just carelessly tossed out in a pile covered by snow. That makes me sick and it makes me want to cry. That is not even the half of the puppy mill cases recorded from each year. 4-5 million animals die in shelters every year (roughly 11,000 every day.) These animals are mainly the cause of sick, unloved animals from puppy mills. Documented problems of puppy mills include: unsanitary facilities, over-breeding, inbreeding, disease, minimal veterinary care, poor quality
