Hessel is all based on near-life experience. Most of all the “assignments” given to the men are dangerous and have actually killed a couple, and yet, why even put these guys through it, if they’re going to die anyway? Because they wouldn’t change anything anyway, they are way too deep into Project Mayhem. I feel that these middle-class men, who have nothing going for them are the exception to becoming something. For the reason that what they ever really wanted was to be a part of something bigger in where one of them, a middleclass man (the narrator), overcomes their sad little life and becomes cool and fearless, which in this case is Tyler
