Pursuing A Degree In Veterinary Medicine Personal Statement
My interest in veterinary medicine began when I was a child; my parents gave me the privilege to own different types of animals. Since then, my curiosity for it has grown as I grew up. However, during my undergraduate career I was having second thoughts about pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. The reason was because I was getting discouraged by the grades I received during my third semester. I was doubting my ability to continue on with pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and let alone a profession. At the time, I was thinking about quitting school to help out my parents with financial responsibilities. My parents didn’t allow it because they wanted the best for me. They even suggested the idea of changing my major; however, …show more content…
Possessing a B.S in biochemistry has enabled me to experience hands-on work and vigorous courses. My degree is proof that I’m capable of achieving any goal. To achieve this goal of mine, I had to realize that everything shouldn’t be treated the same. I set myself to learn several studying techniques, and I became aware of my lifestyle. I’ve learned how to handle my stress by participating in activities such as exercising, cooking, writing, and reading. I’ve also taught myself how to balance my life. I’m extremely committed to my family; therefore, I found a way to manage my time, in order to have time for studying and my family. My family is my motivation; therefore, I’ve decided to pursue my dream. I know that the same motivation and determination I had during my college career will lead me to become a …show more content…
Although I’m curious about each one, my main focus is to work in a private practice. My goal is to provide my service to sheltered animals, as well as, companion pets. In my community, there are colonies of feral and stray cats. Unfortunately, some feral cats cannot be adopted because they can be aggressive towards people; however, they can be sprayed/neutered in order to control their population. This is one way I will like to serve my community by providing a spray/neuter service to feral/stray cats. I’m dedicated to provide sheltered animals my love and care because most of these animals have experienced traumatizing events, such as abuse and abandonment. I believe these animals should have someone to provide their time to care for them, and I want to be that someone. Another way to serve my community and maybe the world is to become an educator and a role model. Teaching people is something I enjoy and I’m comfortable in. During high school, I tutored my friends and family friends in chemistry and math. I would love to teach people about their furry loved ones and about the animals surrounding them, such as wildlife animals. I want to become a role model to people because as a Latina, I had to face difficulties such as financial and cultural difficulties. Thus, I believe I have the responsibility to encourage young Latina women to follow their dreams, as well as, other minorities who find it difficult to find

First, a career in veterinary technologist and technician would bring me great personal satisfaction. I enjoy working, helping out, and simply being around animals. For example, Julie Legred, a veterinary technician and executive director at the National Association of veterinary technicians in America, says, “We do everything except diagnose, prescribe and do surgery. They often work in private clinics and animal hospitals, assisting veterinarians with the care of animals” ("Veterinary Technologist and Technician"). Without veterinary technologists and technicians,…

Every person lives to bring self-satisfaction to their life- to find a purpose. Sometimes that self-satisfaction comes from leadership jobs such as being a politician, and sometimes that feeling comes from humanitarian jobs like being a psychologist. However, that incredible feeling of self-satisfaction can also come from careers that don’t directly involve helping people, but involve helping animals. For some, that career might be to become a veterinary technician. It takes effort for one to achieve a dream and obtain that self-satisfaction, and understanding the road one must take to become a veterinary technician is just as important as understanding the road one takes after achieving it, because new and exciting paths open up after that goal is reached.…

Veterinarians are stewards of animal welfare who have compassion, patience, dedication and are active members of the community. Through my volunteer experiences, I have learned that veterinary medicine is a unique field that encompasses not only the interaction with animals, but where you also get to educate their owners. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to volunteer at Harmony Farms, Inc., Horses for the Handicap, for several years and there is where I fell in love with horses. I observed how horses can comfort those that cannot walk, are paralyzed and suffering from PTSD along with other debilitating illnesses. At Harmony Farms, I witnessed how happy the horses made the riders and I wanted to help continue to bring those…

When I began my freshman year in college I was on the line of whether I wanted to be a full on Veterinarian or get a degree as a Veterinary Technician. Now, with the end of my freshman year approaching, I have decided to be a Veterinary Technician. Although some believe that a career as a Veterinarian is better, I believe a career as a Veterinary Technician is good because salaries are decent, it doesn’t require as much schooling, and helping animals is very satisfying to animal lovers like me.…

After gaining some veterinary practice experience, I will volunteer in Veterinary mission team or organizations to help someone less fortunate than myself.
