Pursuing My Educational Goals
1. Looking back at my childhood, I never consider the idea of attending college since no one in my family had ever graduated from a University. Attending a University was never discussed or encouraged in my home. However, after taking into consideration that my parent came to this country to provide a better future for my sister and me, I was determined to go forward with my educational goals. I witnessed how hard my parents had to work without an educational background, for that reason, I decided to move forward with my education and pursue a graduate degree from Loma Linda University. In addition, my son gives me the drive that I need to pursue my dreams. I recently became a single mother and would love to show my son that it’s never too …show more content…
My spiritual origins have influenced me to live an honest life and have instilled in me what’s right from wrong. My parents are religious and guided me to trust in the Lord, with God’s help, I will continue to make the right choices in life. As Proverbs 22:6 talks about if you “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (NKJV), meaning if surrounded by a Godly lifestyle the more likelihood of continuing to have a similar way of life. In addition, some of the most beautiful experiences in my life came from attending Sunday mass, attending Sunday school, and listening to the Lords word. My own experiences have taught me to listen to God’s voice through prayer, his teachings, reading devotionals, or meditating on scriptures. When a passage or word calls to me, I listen to every aspect of it because the Holy Spirit may be calling to my needs or situation. A scripture from John 14: 15-18 speaks on how God often uses the Holy Spirit to reassure us of our faith in him. As the implication of the Holy Spirit, he is the Spirit of Truth and whatever we may ask of the Lord, he shall give to us. Proverbs 3: 5-6 also talks about how one must trust in the lord “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Indicating that one must rely on the Lords wisdom, power, and goodness in directing our …show more content…
A faith- based education can benefit me because it can deepen my faith. It can enhance to me to be more spiritually involved with my career. A faith-based education allows me to be surrounded with people who have the same morals and beliefs, which can be very encouraging. Furthermore, having a faith-based education will help me cope with the losses that I will encounter as a respiratory therapist. Additionally, a faith-based atmosphere will help me to stay on track and not be easily influenced by my environment. Hebrews 11: 1-3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. It speaks on how trusting in the Lord and having faith in something or someone even if they’re not visible. And although not all things are visible, it is that faith of hoping and trusting in the Lord that it

Many people would agree that without faith, the world would be in chaos. The book Christian Foundation by Kathleen Fischer and Thomas Hart gives an interpretation on faith in our time. Many people would question the definition of faith. Faith is a gift, which is given by God to have trust in him and belief in him. This book is a great entry in anyone's life that has speculation on his or her own faith. The book has many ways into understanding ones own religion. It discusses the Bible, Jesus, Church, God's existence and Images of God. All of these chapters helped me get a better interpretation of what my religion entailed.…

Faith works by influencing the morals of an individual, which then affects personal values and this contemplative process, promotes actions, which stimulates growth and renders them susceptible to revelation. Revelation is not a state, but is a moment of clarity. This moment stirs personal growth further, but most importantly, implants desires towards seeking fulfillment in a greater purpose. This desire to become someone greater is monumental, and this drive distinguishes those considered good from those considered exceptional. Additionally, creating this type of life changing attitude is only made possible by practicing faith, which is the act of believing what you don’t understand.…

I’m attending Monterey Peninsula college on a short-term basis Until I transfer to a four year university. Education in my family has never been an option and I have always been pushed to further my education. I myself value my education because it will enhance my knowledge of whatever career I decide to pursue. Learning in general to me has always been important, I love discovering things I’ve never been introduced to or heard of before. Like Dr. Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”. I chose to attend MPC to explore my options and figure out what career I want to pursue. One of my short-term education goals is to get good grades in all of my classes this semester (my first semester of college) and to create my ideal career plan. A long-term goal of mine is to complete all of my…

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…
