Running head: Mama’s Bakery

Mama’s Bakery
Oneida Berrios
Western Governor’s University Mama’s Bakery
Mama’s Bakery is a home based bakery that began in 2013. The owner creates cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and Hispanic pastries. The patrons that frequent her services are churches, fundraisers and others that come to her home. Her business started as a hobby and a means for the baker to get out of the house. After going through an eight week session of cake decorating, she realized that she can make a profit to help out with the household expenses. She makes everything from scratch and takes her time to make sure that everything is perfect. Her motto is “If it is not good for my family, then it is not good for anyone else.”
Viability of Product or Service In the past couple of months, the baker has seen a decrease in sales because she has no marketing plan. She has been relying on family and word of mouth. Every time she runs to the grocery store, she sees tons of customers at the bakery ordering cakes, but she does not know why she is not as busy as them. Her current marketing plan is obviously not helping. She wants to reach a wide range of customers, but her budget is not that big. She wants to especially reach the Hispanic population. She wants to let it be known that she makes cakes for Quinceañeras, she does make the Tornillos that you usually find in Puerto Rico, and she can make the different types of bread that is a staple in the Bodegas. OF course, there are advantages and disadvantages to going online. One of the negatives that she will be encountering is that she does not have a bakery location. She is working out of her home. She makes custom cakes like many around, but she cannot keep any around because of space limitations. Since she specializes in Puerto Rican pastries, she has to keep these on hand along with cupcakes and cookies. These things take up most of her space. If someone has an “emergency” and
