Comparing Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Becoming a Helper, they both discuss the theory of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. They discuss the most important details of the theoretical approach. Rational emotive behavior therapy rests on the premise that thinking, evaluating, analyzing, questioning, doing, practicing and redefining the basics of behavior change (Corey, Corey, 2011, p. 170). This theory assumes that individuals are born with the potential for rational thinking but that they also uncritically accept irrational beliefs. A reorganization of one’s self statements will result in a corresponding reorganization of one’s behavior (Corey, Corey, 2011, p. 170). The clients are taught that the events of life themselves do not disturb…
According to Simply Psychology, “Rogers believed that people are inherently good and creative. They become destructive only when a poor self-concept or external constraints override the valuing process” (McLeod). This means that self-concepts and external things get in the way of people being good. Without the outside factors, everyone would be and do good. Therefore, the therapy focuses on making people who they want to be, and eliminating poor self-concepts and outside factors that hinder them from being the person that they want to be.…
If there are any techniques they are listening, accepting, understanding and sharing, which seem more attitude-orientated than skills-orientated. The advantage for the therapist is no need for lengthy training and memorising schemes and concepts but to focus on client in here and now. On the other hand this may be a disadvantage in less gifted therapists who may fail to be natural in this relationship which is basically direction deprived.…
According to the Jung Typology Test I received the type INFJ. From the description I am a rare breed (1.5% of the US population) often which are misunderstood. Often viewed as extraverts, INFJ’s are introverts that have a select few people they communicate and stay close with. The demands can be overwhelming for the INFJ type at times forcing them to retreat into their safe net within themselves and closing out the world to regenerate. Organization is greatly needed in my life, bordering the line of OCD. I have not chosen a career path, yet I always gravitated towards counseling which seems to be one area INFJ types prosper in. INFJ’s have a great understanding of people and themselves. They will listen for countless hours as long as it makes…
Individuals that reach out for some form of therapy tend to view the therapist as an all knowing expert. Some individuals have realized that they no longer have the resources nor the ability to move forth with a self-evaluating or self-counseling within their frame and do not trust that they are competent and capable to regain control and move their distress to a more acceptable normalized view of functioning. By attending therapy and the therapist encouraging the client-as-expert mentality, a client could be overwhelmed with anxiety and low level of self competence to continue with the therapy process. Also, a client that is made to attend counseling for some reason, may exhibit that they believe nothing is wrong to have to be a part of therapy. With the client taking this position and remaining an expert, could result in no attainable knowledge or desire to complete therapy with the intentions of changing for the better or making better life…
I can remember an incident with a patient of mine. I was the Director of Nurses at the nursing home where this incident occurred. It was right after breakfast and her call light came on. I went into the room and I asked her if I could help her. She stated to me, “I need to go to the bathroom, but you are the Director of Nurses, you don’t need to help me.” I replied, “I am a nurse, it does not matter what my title is. I am here to help you.” She gave me the biggest smile and I helped her to the bathroom and then back into her wheelchair. I know that there are many areas in which I need to improve in order to be a successful therapist. I will need to continue to grow as a person and become more aware of my shortcomings and how I come across to others. Another area in which I need to improve is to pay more attention to details. As a nurse, I read fast and skim over the important parts, sometimes missing vital information. In order to be an effective clinician I will have to become very detail…
He wouldn’t be making the progress he is without the help of his therapists. This personal experience of mine has fueled me to want to become someone who can make a major impact in someone's life. I want nothing more in my life than to have the opportunity to help someone live the life they deserve to live.…
In my experiences in various physical therapy environments, I was able to observe the compassionate nature and excellent bedside manner of many different therapists, and how they made each and every patient feel both welcomed and respected. This same tact and friendliness towards others is vital in showing professionalism in a DPT program. Even with all the intelligence in the world, a physical therapy student needs to be able to work well with others to succeed, whether it is with faculty or fellow peers. From studying with classmates to group presentations, and even taking part in clinical internships, students in a DPT program need to be cooperative, friendly, and respectful in order to be successful. By doing things such as addressing patients by their first name, talking to them about topics unrelated to their treatment, and initiating follow-up conversations based on past appointments, I tried to adopt these qualities in my work to establish trust and build relationships with our patients, and would apply these qualities to my studies in a DPT program as…
Sinead Smyth, my individual supervisor, has had the greatest influence on me. Her bias that trainees need to spend their first few months “sitting” with their clients, following the subtlest changes in tone or movement, has been invaluable. She has been very helpful in providing excellent guidance on how to conceptualize and approach cases, and she is an expert at normalizing the experiences of new therapists. I highly recommend that you reach out and speak with…
Client participated in 45 minutes “Self-Regulation Strategies” group session. Client made good eye contact with clinician and group members. The client had normal posture and seemed to be calm. Her speech appeared to be normal and her affect was congruent. Her mood appeared to be euthymic. Her thought process was logical.…
My entire high school career, I've been sedulously working up to the moment I can finally say I am an EMT! EMT is one of the toughest curriculum on campus, we're the Marines. Most students don't have what it takes to be in such a challenging course, that’s why there are only fifteen of us. However, to stay enrolled in the course, we need an assessment grade of eighty or better. Pushing us to study nonstop to get the best grade possible. So, I feel if I can pass EMT, I can pass anything I set my mind to.…

As I look back at my time spent at Newark Emergency Services for Families Inc (NESF), I have noticed that I have grown tremendously. I remember how the first couple weeks, I was very unsure of myself and would always second guess everything I did. From my body language, one could tell I was nervous and most of the workers asked me if I felt well every time they saw me. This was clearly evident when I performed my first few intakes. During my first few intakes, I was overly concerned about performing the intake process correctly, and making sure everything was done perfectly. I found out I rarely gave myself the time to realize that it takes time to become an expert in the intake process.…
