This paper is concerned with the development of 1 Day Acuvue® TruEye™ daily disposable contact lenses. Utilising new Hydraclear® technology they represent the next step in daily comfort disposable contact lenses manufactured by Vistakon Ireland. The need for this new comfort lens offering is driven by customer demand and competition in the marketplace. By listening to our customers we are able to deliver the products they want by incorporating their voice into the process. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) places the Voice of the Customer at the heart of product design and delivery. The first step in QFD is the construction of a House of Quality (HOQ) and this is what we will use to ensure that the customer demands are met throughout the process.

There are four important parts within this step. Those would be the target value or limit value, difficulty value, weight/importance, and relative weight. The importance of the technical properties in the House of Quality Diagram is to give a weight of importance or priority weight for each of the customer characteristics. With having a high priority level for a characteristic, the engineer or company using this QFD, can then work quality characteristic issues to give the customer the best product.
