I. Introduction, Problem Statement, and Definition of Terms 1. Discuss how adequately the research problem statement is described in the introduction to the study?
According to Polit and Beck (2004) a research problem statement identifies the nature of the problem, the context and the significance of the problem (p.73). According to Polit and Beck’s definition of a problem statement, Mowad adequately described the problem statement. Mowad described that the nature of the problem deals with the quality of life for …show more content…
The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were generated to test using stepwise multiple regressions. Stepwise regression was chosen for use because no specific order of importance to the variables was suggested by theory. Hypothesis A, B, C are correctly stated in line with the research design because correlational research tests’ the variation in one variable to be related to variation in another (Polit & Beck, 2004, p. 188). In Hypothesis A, health-promoting lifestyle is correlated to quality of life. In hypothesis B, sense of coherence is correlated to quality of life. In hypothesis C, personal autonomy is correlated to quality of life. Hypothesis D is also stated correctly in line with the research design because it combines all three other hypotheses to come up with a quantitative result for the explanation of quality of life. To test for more than 2 variables you would use a multiply regression (Polit & Beck, 2004, p.514). So hypothesis D falls in line with research design because the multiply regression would how much the variables together …show more content…

1+2a. For each instrument used in the study indicate the types of previous reliability and validity that were reported.
For the Quality of Life Profile: Seniors Version (QOLPSV), concurrent validity and a coefficient alpha of .95 was reported by Raphael, Smith, Brown, and Renwick. Positive correlation with the Life Satisfaction scale (r=.37, p=.01), the Memorial University Hospital of Newfoundland scale of happiness (r=.55, p=.01), the Social Health Battery (r=.58, p=.001), and he Activity items from a national survey of seniors (r=.42, p=.05) were established by Raphael, Brown, et al. For the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II Mowad reported previous content validity. Also coefficient alpha of .94 was reported by Walker. A .92 coefficient alpha was also reported in a sample of 629 adult women with MS and .92 in a sample of 834 adults with diagnosis of MS. For the Perceived Enactment of Autonomy scale Mowad reported previous construct and concurrent validity. Previous work done by Hertz reported a coefficient alpha of .85 and Castelluci reported a coefficient alpha of
