Quarterback Syndrome Essay
The Black Quarterback Syndrome is based on the biases people have towards the first person known as pioneers, that take on a role uncommon to the cultural norm. Even if the person has the qualification to obtain the role. Many cultural shift are currently taking place as the equality of life is expanding but resistance exist as mention by Davis, due to the indifference, their “distant brought on by gender, age, race, economic class, and education that others may just not experience with others like you”. In the interest of preventing Davis’ (2010) definition of the black quarterback syndrome for pioneers, organizations need to promote cultural diversity. For the purpose to include many people who are different from one another, without taking into account the multitude of problems that diversity brings (Thatcher, Jehn & Zanutto, 2003). There are many improvements needed in the workforce, so experiencing the QBS, pioneers should invest in adding Multicultural trainings into their on-going innovating training for all people. We have a long way to go, but many indifferences are shifting slowly. Such as with those changes of working mothers, at home dads, male nurses, women construction workers, female CEO’s, a Black President and many others. But it is hard for those individual with very different life experience and viewpoints which are the causes of the conflict to the people with the change.
