Quitting should never be an option! Many people quit because it’s the easiest thing to do, but what they don’t know is, they could be as close to success as they want to be but never know because quitting was their first option. I went through a time in my life where I thought quitting would be the best choice I could ever make. Playing basketball is not an easy thing to do if you want to be successful and go far, well I accomplished a lot by not quitting.
Summer of 2009, everyday I would go outside on a basketball court, knowing soon I would have to start my workouts with my older cousin Monty. Pushing me to become the best, Monty had the best intentions for me but work me hard. Every morning as Monty and I pull up to the park, before I run around the track I would say “I don’t really feel like doing this today” with an unworkable attitude, Monty would always give me a look like “hey do what you want, but if you don’t do the workouts you would regret it.” With the vision of success I would still do the workouts but not to my full potential.
Day to day as we workout and struggle to eat, I would constantly think about just giving up, going home and never showing up on a basketball court again. My skill level in the game of basketball was not always as good as it is now so back then the drills we use to do use to feel like the hardest thing ever. I would always say “this is to hard, I can’t do this” and Monty would insist I remove the word “can’t” from my vocabulary and would always work me harder. My days would feel so long but my nights, when it’s time to sleep would feel so short. One night before our workouts, Monty started an argument with me saying I’m not as focus as I should be, making me feel like I’m wasting both of our time. That night I did some serious thinking.
