Rachel's Challenge Speech

This year, in my final year of highschool, I have been faced with many decisions and, as a result, have grown as a person. One of the most eye opening experiences I’ve encountered thus far is the Rachel’s Challenge presentation back in September. Although it was only an hour and a half, the tale of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine shooting, has heavily influenced my philosophy on life. Rachel lived her life in way she hoped to change the world, by following her “Code of Ethics.” She believed that compassion and trust were key to this goal, that by simply being kind she could ‘start a chain reaction.’ Taking from her example I have developed my own code to live by that can be neatly summed up by the phrase: Change begins with
me.
