Imagine being mistreated, looked down upon, and prejudiced against just because of who you are, your skin color, or your race. Victims of racial discrimination have to endure this torture almost every day, and it can take an unimaginable toll on both their mental and physical health. It can be detrimental to a victim’s mental health because they are constantly bullied by the people who are discriminating against them. For example, a victim can be bullied into believing that they are what the bully is telling them they are, as well as growing to hate themselves because of who they are. Another way a victim’s health could be harmed is seeing one of their friends, colleagues, family or acquaintances hurt if a situation grows violent, which it often can. …show more content…
Wherever racial discrimination goes, violence can often follow.
This is evidenced by both Apartheid in South Africa and the Holocaust during World War Two. Both of them were massive examples of racial discrimination, and violent racial discrimination at that. When racial discrimination turns violent it is potentially physically detrimental to everyone involved. This is because the violence can potentially cause both harm and serious, potentially disabling injuries which can affect a person for the rest of their
life.
Finally, I believe that racial discrimination should be stopped because it negatively affects society as a whole. Take segregation, for example. Segregation is the act of separating one group of people from another based on their race. For example, if a white person wants to take a drink of water from a water fountain, then he has to do so from a ‘White’ water fountain. If a black person wants to take a drink of water from a fountain, he has to do so from a ‘Black’ water fountain. This can result in alienation between the two races, limiting collaboration, and therefore being detrimental to society as a whole because of that.
In conclusion, I believe that racial discrimination should be stopped because it is detrimental to both the mental and physical health of its victims, as well as that of society as a whole.
