During a stop, “a black man age twenty-five or younger has a 28 percent chance of being stopped for an investigatory reason over the course of a year” while “a similar young white man has a 12.5 percent chance”(Epps and Maynard-Moody, 2013). When they do get stopped it ends in one of three ways: death, ticket, or arrest. The punishments of people of color are far more severe than those of whiter complexion. Why do black parents have to give their children the talk about “what to do during a police stop” rather than “the birds and the bees?” Why do blacks live in fear when this country is supposed to protect them? They fought for their rights the Civil Rights Movement and Brown vs. Board of Education thus making a change. But racism is causing these rights to be challenged.
