The goal of this study was to examine individuals’ opinions about racism and if racism exists and how it effects multiple races. The participants used throughout this study were all students at the University of West Georgia. In all, there were 36 surveys distributed to the students in the Sociology class and 18 students were verbally asked the survey questions and recorded, which serves as an interview. The students within the Sociology class were used as a random sample and the students that were asked verbally were chosen based of certain criteria. The study chosen required the opinions of both female and males of African American, Caucasian, Native American, Hispanic, Asian and any other race that we could contact. “What is your gender?; What is your ethnicity?; How old are you?; What groups do you classify yourself with?; Do you feel racism exist?; Have you ever been involved in racism/discrimination because of your race?; Do you view all ethnicities as equal?; Do you use racial slurs?; If yes, is it within your own race?; Do you associate certain issues in society with race and an example?; Do you feel because of your race you have it harder than any other ethnicity?” The printed surveys were handed out during the 12:30pm Tuesday and Thursday Introduction to Sociology class and the video-recorded interviews took place in the University of West Georgia Ingram Library. During the recorded interviews, the students were first asked if they wanted to participate and if they did not mind being recorded. The students were asked each of the eleven questions, but unlike the students that took the surveys, this group of participants had a chance to explain their thoughts. The results were counted and evaluated separately and later combined during research
