and toning muscle rather than speed or building muscle as men wish to do. Females are less likely to participate in sports because they’re discouraged and made to feel inferior to boys , which hurts their self-confidence .Sports give women a chance to participate alongside males and be honored by the community as well. In sport like basketball, only men were allowed to play. As time progressed on women’s rights have allowed women to join in sports like basketball. Even though women are allowed to play most sports in the U.S. women all over the world still face challenges for their rights. Some women in the middle-eastern countries are looked down upon and stripped of their rights for education, life, sports, and social class. Women in the sports industry are underpaid in comparison to men . “for every new dollar going into athletics at the Division I and Division II level, male sports receive 58 cents while female sports receive 42 cents.”( Torr) . Females work and put in the same amount of effort as a male and still gets underpaid . Some athletes use sexism as a basis for being discriminated against , when there could be another for being treated a certain way . For example , an athlete could be rejected from a team , and cite sexism as the cause , when there could have been another reason or reasons Racism in sports has been a prevalent issue throughout the world, and in particular racism towards African-Americans has been especially bad over racism.
Racism has been a major issue which occurs at many different levels in certain fields. In sports racism is happening more often and is becoming a big problem. It has led to a wide range of incidents which have been shown in the media , such as football players kneeling during the National Anthem in remarks to President Donald Trump response to football. Sports such as hockey, basketball, football, and soccer, each have primarily dominant races that participate in them. Stereotypes is a also a main problem in racism like “ White people can not jump” or “Black people can not swim” Racism in sports plays a big role in this ranking, therefore racism is still exists today in society . The sports themself does not have racism but the people that participate in playing and watching the sport influences racism with the sport. Racism can be expressed in ways that differ from verbal statements. Racist chanting, crowd violence, gestures, and actions are other offensive acts of racism. Racism in some countries are handled with more caution than in America , for instance in Spain they have created a new law to fight racism in sports after several black soccer players there were targeted with insults and attacks. The color of a player's skin remains an issue when indeed it should not , which is dividing rather than bring communities …show more content…
together. Racism in sports is not only affecting the players they are characterized but it is also hurting too . According “Skin Games” written by Greg Guss states that “indicating that players are paid based on talent rather than skin color or personality” (Guss 52) Athletes should get paid due to their performance level less than the color of their skin . Racism is continually going on today in sports and has not been fully erased yet so it needs to be dealt with .
Athletes are more likely to abuse drugs while playing a sport.
Athletes take drugs to improve their performance to help them prevent them from falling behind other competitors. Steroid usage is probably one of the most common drug misuses in sports competition. In 1975 , the first drug ban in the Olympics competition occurred because health issues were beginning to produce . Drugs usage in sports is unfair to the people that are competing with the athlete that contains drugs , the athlete has more of an advantage of winning considering that they are under the influence of drugs. If you want to win , then you have to put in countless hours of hard work and training in a natural process. The effect of drugs in sports is that when one person in that sport takes drug than it creates a domino affect , which other players would think that drugs would benefit them. Many say that drugs used in sports does not have side effect and irregular muscle growth , but other say “ steroids have few if any clinical benefits and produce serious side effects, even if not completely documented. Steroids increase cholesterol levels and, by implication, the risk of heart disease, they say. Oral steroids—though not the more common injected versions—also appear to be associated with liver cancer, they say.” (Jost 616-622) . By banning the use of performance enhancing drugs, just like steroids, sports competition will have a much healthier and fairer environment to participate
in.
Several things athletes should be aware of while being apart of the Sports department , these things include drugs , sexism , and even racism .Issues occuring in sports that needs to be acknowledged is sexism because women are being discriminated against in the sports world via lower pay and fewer opportunities . Sports acknowledgement should be view based on performance level rather than their color of skin Coaches should be aware of what their athlete is taking and how they will improve their performance level without the help of drugs.
