It has not been quite recently when I scheduled and fulfilled the observation requirement, but about a year ago this month when applying for this program last year. The amazing thing about it is that the memory of this day still remains vividly in my mind. It was on this day that I learned the basic and not so basic job requirements for becoming a radiology technologist. Many might think that this job is limited to aiming a machine, positioning a patient, and taking pictures of their bones, but come to find out there was a whole lot more to it.…

I have wanted to go to Shawnee State since my 11th grade year when we had college day at our school, and I got to talk to them and found out they have a radiology program available. Radiology has been what I have wanted to go to college for since 7th grade but more recently, I have fallen in love with Medical Assistant and Dental Hygiene. I have always loved helping people (even though I have the patience of a new mother with 6 children) so the medical field has always interested me. The definition for a radiologic technologist is "Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform…

Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…

A few years back I was in a car accident and injured my back. I had an MRI and some basic x-rays done. While in the care of these highly trained and friendly technicians, I came to realize this is what I wanted to do. I believe that our soul purpose in life is to help others. Since my car accident, I realized how I could accomplish my main goal in life. I can help people by being a radiographer. It may sound a little clichéd my story, but it is the truth. Since I have been attending college I thought about being a nurse then a dental hygienist, but I never had that feeling that most people get when something is right. The feeling when you find that special or right thing. Like buying a house, car, or even finding that special someone. The sensation is a warm enthusiasm feeling that consumes the heart. It is a feeling that takes all control of all emotions. When I realized and was introduce into the field, I knew it was love at first sight. I wanted to know more about radiology.…

During my time in high school, both inside and outside of school, I often had the reoccurring thoughts of a necessity to go somewhere with my life. During my senior year of high school I began to realize as any young man that comes to that part of life that I was about to begin to make choices on their own for the first time. I was all for going to school and getting a degree but then reality struck and I had to begin to think of ways of paying…
