Goal/Objective: After reading The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. Students will be able to create a friendship flower to show how to be a good friend by writing what they appreciate of a friend on the flower and giving it to them.
Activity:
True friends are hard to find and when we find them we should show our appreciation. Teaching students to appreciate their friends is essential for their life because they’ll learn how to be a good friend and maintain a good friendship. Students will think about a friend whom they want to give this flower to. I will talk aloud with my thoughts. I will say, “Hmm, I want to make a friendship flower for my best friend, Fiona.” “I want to show her that I appreciate her.” Then I will ask the students, “Does anyone know what appreciation means?” After students predict what the word appreciation means, I will explain to them what it means.
