Gun control has long been a contentious issue in the United States, but in more recent decades, it’s a topic that seems to gather the most attention in the aftermath of mass shootings. Unfortunately, 2012 featured two very notable such incidents, with Sandy Hook being the second-most deadly in American history. Add in the fact that 20 of these victims were elementary school aged children, and it’s no surprise that the push for reformed gun legislation seems stronger than ever. There’s an enormous amount of debate being had within our society, and it’s virtually impossible to turn on the TV or go online without being exposed to the ideas and opinions of government officials, national organizations, or citizens regarding gun laws. No matter where they stand on the issue, too many people participating in the debate are spitting out “facts” that simply are not true. And the continued spread of this false information is not helping the country get any closer to the ultimate goal of less senseless acts of violence.…

Tragedy looms above all, striking at the most inopportune of ocassions before sulking off into the unspecified realm of dark situations yet again. It has no preference for a certain variety of victims; to seek and destroy is the only goal with matter. Such is the case of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting on December 14, 2012. This misanthropy hurts not only the person wielding it, but the others who may also express not as extreme feelings of misunderstanding. This unbearable, and, to some, unforgivable, act at the hands of a mentally unstable murderer is more of something of an inspiration of others to heed the calls of newfound hope in humanity, emphasize national mental health awareness, and the techniques utilized to prevent gun-related attacks.…

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past.
