Reaction Paper About Duolingo

The interviews provided an opportunity to have students express their opinions directly, in their own words, and to be able to explore the reasons behind the answers. In response to the third probing question of the second main question: How has your vocabulary studying been going recently?, all four students mentioned Duolingo almost immediately. This question might not have been as effective when posed to students in the other grades, but since the Grade 7 students were new to the school, and new to the Duolingo program, they thought of Duolingo in response to a question about their recent vocabulary study. All four students gave positive responses.
Student 1:
- These days I study Duolingo every day. It’s fun.
Student 2:
- It’s better than in the past because now I am using Duolingo.
Student 3:
- Our teacher makes us use Duolingo in our home. It’s a good way to study. It’s like a game. So I can play it a lot.
Student 4:
- (Smiles. Thumbs up.) Do you know Duolingo? It’s not like studying.
In all four cases, the interviewer then proceeded to ask questions regarding the effectiveness of Duolingo in improving vocabulary. All four students reported that it was effective, and then the interviewer followed-up
Both stakeholders and evaluators closely monitored the accuracy of the data to ensure that no biased interpretations were made. Special attention was given to protect human and legal rights and maintained the dignity of all the participants and stakeholders. Informed consent was received from the students and parents or legal guardians. Documents were carefully worded when necessary due to language issues.
