After learning about the Holocaust, it is still hard to believe that something so devastating could happen. The fact that human beings, that supposedly have hearts and souls, could murder innocent people is unfathomable. Many of the heroes of the Holocaust are the people that stood up for what was right and fought against the evil that was taking place, and even hid Jewish families to protect them. One person who risked her life to fight for what she believed in was Miep Gies.
Everyone knows about the brave Anne Frank, but barely any have heard of Miep Gies, the woman who hid Anne Frank and her family during World War II. Miep Gies is the reason that the world met Anne Frank and found out about Gies’ heroic efforts in hiding the Franks and other Jews. Equality, generosity and modesty are the qualities that make up Miep’s character. For over two years, she risked her own and her families lives everyday to illegally protect and care for the Franks and four of their friends hiding from the Nazis in an attic. Miep Gies’ heroic efforts will never be forgotten. Her resistance towards the Holocaust has made her one of the many important people in history.
