Reason why students do not join educational tours
Chapter I
Introduction
Background of the study
In today's modern day and age, there are different ways of learning, as Mumford and Honey in 2011 stated on their study there are four stages of learning, such as; (a) having an experience (b) reviewing the experience (c) concluding an experience and (d) planning the next step, as we all know one best way of getting an experience is through application or being exposed to the world.
In this study, the researchers hope to know insights of students that are affecting their decision in joining educational tours, for them to experience the activities of the hospitality industry. According to an article by Sunny in 2004 entitled Encouraging the Uncooperative Student to Be Cooperative there are two types of uncooperative students; (a.) "I'm smarter type" and (b.) "I don't see the value type" , It is evident that mostly, when it comes to school activities we usually hear the second type of student, the "I don't see the value" type ,which may be that they didn't explain the reason for following the instructions to their satisfaction which in this case may be the reason why they don't see the value of the tour, It is mentioned online in 2010 that there are eight reasons why students should join school activities, one of those is to know new people and have fun, it is a must that they enjoy what they are doing, it will be easier for them to learn by having fun with the experience. Another reason given is that active students tend to be more committed to graduating, by joining educational tour; it shows their commitment to their course which is connected to the third reason given which research shows that students who are active on college campuses will “persist,” that is, stay through graduation. Fourth to eight reason is correlated to each other. In summing it up it shows that Educational Tours for Students teach them to be self-reliant in their life. It is due to this aspect, they learn to carry out a host of daily activities, without relying on anyone else. It is this kind of attitude which also helps them in their future life. This also help them see and interact with the people who experienced the same hardship in their college life, they will have a broad view of what’s to come since they’ve seen the application in their very eyes. As students come a faraway distance from their place, they also have to take care of all their daily needs and requirements themselves and a host of other things. However, while living an independent life they learn a lot from their fellow travelers. In this way they get back home as a more complete and independent person.
There are a lot of factors to be considered that affect student’s decision in joining an educational tour, such factors are financial difficulties which includes cost, expenditure and allowance, parental consent which is focusing on the feel of security on the parents point of view, Also includes accommodation, itinerary and whatnot, another factor is perceptionwhich focuses on the credibility of trips previously conducted by the school. It also comprises the feedback heard from other students, staff, faculty and guardian and others which may not be included in those options that have already been mentioned. These factors are making deciding harder for students as well as the guardians in making a choice to join an educational trip for their children. This study aims to answer the real reason behind student’s non-cooperation in joining educational tours organized by school. The results that will be established will help the school in determining what changes to be made for students to be cooperative. Similarly, this research will also help students understand the benefits of joining the activity and will therefore know and decide accordingly.

Statement of the problem
This study aims to answer the following:
1. What is the profile of the participants? A. age B. gender C. year level 2. What are the factors that affect the students’ decision to join educational tour
3. What are the benefits of joining the tour as perceived by selected CITHM students.

Significant of the study
CITHM Students –this will help them realize the benefits of joining educational tours
Researcher - this will hone the researcher’s ability in writing and will mold their problem solving skills.
Future Researcher - this will benefit other researchers who wish to have similar studies as they can get background information from the result of the study which will serve as a template to modify their research.
Scope and Limitation
In general, the focus of this study is directed towards and mainly on the reason affecting decision making in joining an educational tour. The survey will run across Lyceum of the Philippines Cavite and will be conducted to the third year CITHM students enrolled for the school year 2012-2013 only. This study is largely dependent on honesty, sincerity and integrity of the respondents. The survey will not be open to students taking up other course nor to HRM students from another school, will this mainly be concentrated to the students within the university.
