I have always been the type of person who has a tremendous amount of desire to achieve. I want to be somebody. I want to make a difference in my community. As a result I set four major goals for myself during my junior year in high school. The first of these goals is completing my high school education with at least a 3.0 grade point average or above. The second goal is to obtain a college education. The third goal is to start a lasting career for myself as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. The last goal is to raise a family in the best possible atmosphere.…
When I graduated high school in 2013 I attended a community college in Pennsylvania for a semester. My thought on college in high school were “I don’t really want to continue my education for another four years”. That was until my high school counselor called me to her office seeing that I didn’t apply for schools. She explained that I wouldn’t be able to get a good job or ever own a house without a college degree, so that fear pushed me into continuing my education. My parents were the same way they also told me “most jobs would hire a college graduate over a high school graduate”. That was the final push towards the path of…
I feel the most important reasons for me to go to college is making my whole family proud of me and becoming a better role model for my daughter. After I graduated high school I made the decision to not go to college, and get straight to working. My family was disappointed that I made that decision. I went to work for my family’s business and thought that I would have a good and stable career for life. I know that once I get my degree that I will make them proud. My daughter is now 6 months old and hopefully she will realize it is easier to attend college earlier in life. I think that trying to attend college at the age of 31, is twice the struggle than going to college right after graduating high school. It is twice the struggle because you have to relearn the basic school concepts that you already have fresh in your…
Throughout high school, I had always envisioned myself in attending Texas A&M. There are still some extra steps I need to take but I know what my goals are and I’m going to do whatever it takes to achieve them. I know it’s not going to be simple but not impossible. My parents came to this country to work hard and better their lives for my brothers and me. My dad works too hard seven days a week and I look at how tired he is all the time. I want to be able to go to school, pursue my dreams, obtain my dream job and help other people. I want my parents to see that them working so hard and coming to America and leaving their entire family was worth it. I want to witness the happiness in my dads face when I walk across that stage at Texas A&M.…

I have always heard people say, “College is the key to success” and “The best way you could have great job, is by going to college”. Honestly, I always believed that you do not have to go to college. I never even wanted to go to college. At that time, I felt that college was a waste of time. The reasons why I decided to go to college was to see if college is for me. Secondly, I decided to go because of my mom and my mentor. Lastly, I want to better myself as person and succeed in life.…
It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…
The reason why i want to attend college is because it will be an honor to my family and especially to my mother. College is not common in my family because no one has gone to college yet and I would want to be the first in my family to attend a 4 year university. Going to college will make me feel proud of myself because I will make my mom proud and not just that, but make myself proud of all the accomplishments i have accomplished so far. Personally my career goals is to do something i'm just not going to enjoy for a temporality time, but for the rest of my life. The field where i would want to study is physical therapy or a field where i would be working with bones, possibly I can major in english. Physical therapy grabs my attention because i used to play soccer, but due to health issues I stopped playing, started coaching my brothers team and what i enjoyed from that experience was when someone would…
I want to attend college to earn a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, but major in Pre-Law. I also want to continue my studies, get a great paying job, and join Delta Sigma Theta. College can be a very fun experience, but you also need to take it very seriously. Education is nothing to be foolish with.…
“My reasons for college are probably just like everyone else’s. I went to college because I wanted a better life for myself and better myself. I wanted to find a job that I would not be living paycheck to paycheck like my parents had to do when they first got married. I mean, no one wants to live that way? I know for a fact that I did not want that, and that is why I choose to go to college, even more than is the main reason why college was so important to me. Another reason, both my parents didn’t go to college but have archived success in the new world‘s eyes, I believe children from a young age watch and look up to those in their life. Such as word ethic and things like that, yes, they’re times that even with a terrible person to look up to that person becomes a hard working because they want to be the opposite of that person, sadly that does not happen too often. Plus I get to play one of my favorite sport which is track and field.…
The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
Throughout my time in high school I had never really given much thought into what I wanted to do once I graduated. I knew I was going to be going to some university to pursue a degree, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go. It wasn’t until I took AP Computer Science in 11th grade that I decided that pursing a degree in Computer Science was the right thing for me. This type of work was something that I greatly enjoyed and through computer science I would be able to solve problems in creative ways. When applying for colleges I didn’t get into the University of Florida. This was my top pick and for months I was looking forward to the possibility of attending there. I didn’t let that get me down because I still had plenty…
I am going to college optimistically to pursue a career in Nursing. But why? My college education will help me prepare for and ultimately obtain my dream job. I am going to college to pursue my education doing what I love; learning.…
Right now I am attending Polk State Collegiate High School in order to obtain my Associate of Arts degree while I am still in high school. One of the main reasons that I am attending Collegiate High School, besides to get ahead is because I have no college funds. My college savings were used in order to try and keep my step dad from being extradited back to England. In the end he still got deported leaving me and my little sister to survive off of my single mom’s teacher salary. My ex-step dad, who has been in England for four years now, has not pay child support at all for my little sister which makes it extra difficult on my single mother. I plan on staying at Polk State through the rest of my college career in order to save money. I will become a part of their nursing program to…
Aside from the inspiring role models I gratefully have and the never-ending encouragement my family provides me with, my personal motivation for proceeding onto college are countless. Some of the larger reasons why I choose to go to college are because I see that college offers a variety of opportunities that is not offered anywhere else. For instance, college offers courses that will further one’s experience in a certain field, preparing one for the real world before one can successfully thrive in the fast-paced and volatile world. Not only will I obtain and expose myself to “the tough stuff,” which includes countless demanding college courses, I am also building a stronger profile of myself with the challenging classes I will partake for professionals who will review my resume when I apply for a job or go to a job interview (Graff 225). Going to college will allow me to be an independent individual because it will be essential for me learn how to make a living on my own. I will no longer have my parents or siblings to help and look out for me anymore. I am required to take control of my life and basically learn how to survive on my own. My college education will be highly beneficial because obtaining a college degree and/or a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) will open more doors for me considering that the fact that some employers “do not even interview applicants who do not hold a B.A.” (Graff 233). Therefore, I will have an advantage over those who do not have a B.A. Many may argue that there have been successful stories that did not involve a college education, however the chances of that are very low. Furthermore, my desire to be influenced by a new and diverse group of people leads me to go to college. I wish to be influenced by more and intelligent people who hold perceptions contrary to mine, so I can…
