Reasons Why Christians Went On The Crusades
A crusade was a military expedition addressed by Pope Urban II to reclaim Palestine from the Muslims. Taking back Palestine was the main reason why Crusades occurred. There are several reasons why people went on Crusades. Since Jesus had lived and died there, the Church thought Palestine belonged to them. Second, the motivation as to why Christians went on the Crusades consisted of fighting for honor and probably wanted to be known more by their people, to become a model for their children or maybe they were just fighting for the love of Christianity. Pope Urban II said, “Accordingly, undertake this journey eagerly for the remission of your sins, with the assurance of the reward of imperishable glory in the kingdom of heaven.” This quote tells
