Preferred learning style is a multimodal learning style which includes all of the above mentioned four learning modes. First of all, visual learning strategies include looking at pictures, postures, slides, diagrams, graphs, flow charts, and underlining and highlighting the key words during learning. After the teaching session is over, a visual learner should recall visual images used during learning and should practice turning visual images into words again to be able to write if needed for examination. Secondly, Aural learning strategies include attending classes and then discussing with others to hear from them, attending tutorials, discussing topics with educators, using a tape recorder to record lecture and then listening to it, and reading notes aloud to hear then again in order to remember material. Third, Read/write learning strategies include writing and rewriting key words and ideas, making a new list from diagrams and graphs, reading notes silently over and over, and practicing examination by writing answers. Lastly, kinesthetic learning strategies include using all the senses to learn material via demonstration. It includes experimenting in laboratories, field trips to learn new ideas, listening to lecture which includes real…
According to VARK (Fleming, 2001-2011), visual learners prefer pictures; they tend to look for the whole picture instead of breaking it down, and analyzing each portion. They will remember pictures or diagrams on study pages. Aural learners prefer to hear things; they will re-listen to taped lectures, and should attend discussions. Their class notes might be poor because they tend to listens instead of take notes, but they will recall stories or examples from the lectures. Read/write learners like words or lists; they take a lot of notes, and re-read them over and over. They use dictionaries,…
Firoozeh Dumas' essay, "The F-Word," addresses the very relatable struggle every person with an ethnic name faces in the American culture. Her prime example being herself, Dumas humorously and realistically depicts the trauma a person endures from constantly having to educate people about your name. She also uses the names of her siblings to provide a comparison of the names' meaning in Persian versus their American mispronunciations. Dumas' seamless use of analogies, word choice and quotations assists in her goal of making the reader understand and sympathize with her frustration.…

Being able to communicate with each other in this global diverse world, we all need to understand our preferred learning styles to contribute to our learning abilities and society. At the start of December the teacher asked me to design a display which embodied the spirit of the Nativity Story. The display was to be situated on the board above the pegs where the children hang their coats. It was to be put here so that it can be instantly noticed by parents/carers, the children and all visitors to the classroom.…

I learned about my preferred learning style by taking the VARK Learning Style Questionnaire. My style was kinetics and although i have the other skills as well. The other one ones are not as high as the kinetics skill. I like it better to have a more hands on experience. Like when i learned how to mow the lawn. I had to have someone show me how to operate the lawnmower. Showing me helps me to do things because once i can see how it’s done then i can do it as well.…
| My preferred general learning style is auditory, which means I do best by hearing. However, I am considered a multi-sensory learner. There are times where I learn best by doing, and then there are other circumstances where I learn best by observation. I am flexible and my preferred learning style really boils down to, it depends on the environment, task, and information being presented.…
I also was not very suprised that i have a preference for the read/write learning style. I do the same as you. I read the text and take notes on the important topics. I agree that rewriting the information helps me engrave it in my memory. However, with the Learn Smart resource the important parts are already found and highlighted for you. This makes the need for copying the text not as important but without taking notes myself, it will be harder for me to understand the material. So this new resource will create some new challeges for me but as you stated i always have the support of my instructor or advisor if i need…

This exercise has taught me a lot on my way of thinking, concentrating, and contact with people. I never knew that these learning styles determine how I perceive my everyday functions. Until now I always thought of myself being a Visual learner, I have to see it in order to understand it. I am a see it, to believe it type of woman. After taking the self-test and reviewing the chart, my way of thinking is much broader. I do all three of the learning styles. I had to sit back and say; am I weird? Am I just able to learn, all different Ways.…
