Reflection on Learning with Learning Contract
In this assignment, I need to reflect on the situation that took place during my working group. In this reflection, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988) modal of reflection consists of six stages to complete one cycle which is description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and an action plan.
Description
I was put in groups for a week to work through a set of tasks. There was a mixture of males and females with a wide range of ages. There were some people that played a part in the group activities and there were some that did not, this was what contributed to the breakdown in communication in my group. The first day we got into groups, we had to do a learning styles questionnaire. In this questionnaire there were four types of learning styles, which where activists, reflectors, theorists and pragmatists (Honey, 1973). In my group of seven we were made up of reflectors, theorists and pragmatists. On the second day we did a group activity about the skills knowledge and attitudes that a health care professional should have. During this task we were divided has a group even more because we all had different views on what we thought was the ideal health care professional. Day three we did a Kohlberg’s moral dilemma (1981) where we had to choose whether Heinz should steal the drug or not. My group was divided on whether he should steal the drug or not. On day four we did a self and peer-evaluation questionnaire.
Feelings
I felt very frightened in the group setting because I preserved that I was the youngest in the group and I did not know anyone, which I was very shocked me because I am normally a very confident person. I also felt very out of place I really did not like being in a group that did not click with each other. I then started to get concerned that we would not get any of our group tasks finished. My second concern was that in a difficult situation that we

There were a lot of positives about our group. We are all very educated and excited about the things that we were presenting on and many of us have experience on what we were doing. For example, I have done blood pressures and blood sugars on missions trips in the past and Christina does both in the hospitals for clinical. This was very helpful in getting our health fair done properly and effectively because we knew that we were doing it correctly. Some weaknesses that the team encountered were ensuring that everyone completed their assigned task and had it turned in on time. I had initially failed at this as I did not complete or turn in my portion of the grant proposal. I then got my act together and was an active participant for the rest of the service learning project. I think that after the first part of the project, the grant proposal, our group…

Helping Annie video is a video about a young lady with depression and an eating disorder. She has confronted her school nurse about the problem and is seeking help. She is a senior in High School with no history of depression. In her junior year at High School, her grades started to fall. The nurse decided to bring in a psychiatrist and social worker. With this group, the nurse will hopefully be giving a plan on how to help Annie. When the group decided to sit together, the diversity within the group was different. Annie’s nurse had, social worker and psychiatrist each wanted to help Annie in their own way, but neither wanted to listen to the ideas that the others had. At the beginning diversity caused barriers in communication of the group. Each person wanted to be heard for their idea and was not allowing others to give insight in their ideas. From the transcript, it looked as if another person was cutting off each person. A few times in the transcripts, words were being cut off giving the idea that another person was jumping in the conversation. Maybe if the group used a sense of competence and a sense of progress they could have agreed on an accomplishment at the beginning of the session. Having a sense of progress for the group meeting may have been the key for starting out the meeting. If everyone understood from the beginning that they were brought in with Annie as their goal, then maybe the barrier of communication would have not risen. Each person in the group was competent in their own mind and profession; this is why they were brought into the meeting. Maybe being too proud could have caused some of the opinions. The members of the group should have come to the meeting with open eyes and left their ego-ness at the door before entering into the meeting.…

Each member appeared to be engaged in the decision of the topic and felt that Social Exchange Theory was something of interest to all involved in the group. In addition, group members A, and C suggested incorporating a specific group population into the presentation so that we could focus on more specifics information to research and report on the topic. The group did discuss that our presentation could really focus on a clinical model of group work such as substance abuse, or criminal justice populations. However, there did appear to be some resistance with group member B and she wanted clarification about group specifics from the course…

The aim of this essay is to reflect upon and evaluate my personal, academic and career developments since I have started university. I will be reflecting upon my experience of the work placement and feedback received from my first semester assignments, along with evaluating my career aspirations and creating an action plan on how to get there. Throughout the essay I will be using Gibbs reflective cycle to allow me to effectively evaluate my progress and develop a plan so that I can continue to move towards my career aspirations. Gibbs, 1988 proposed that reflection can take place after an experience and provided a structure to guide the process of relating. The proposed model has “six stages with each step informing the next. (See Figure 1…

As there are a number of stages involving a group, my main focus will be on the “performing” stage, by it being informative, conversational, and interactive. This Healthy Life/Health Self group would begin after introductions, recap, and goals focus is stated, as being an informative part of on its topic for the session on what the topic is about, issues involved, solutions, and other relevant information on the topic of discussion with information provided. Then, I want to hear the perspective of the members on what they learned, and how it relates to them. I aim to have each perspective heard, and for each member to provide each member their feedback and/or solution on assisting each other with their personal struggle. Based on the topic that is of focus for each session, there will be an interactive portion/time where the members would display their change outcome, along with the help of the members, if needed. What is informed by the instructors will lead to what the member(s) would do verbally, and displaying what they would/will do actively in making a change in front of others and for…

"Humans are small group beings. We always have been and we always will be. The ubiquitousness of groups and the inevitability of being in them makes groups one of the most important factors in our lives. As the effectiveness of our groups goes, so goes the quality of our lives." (Johnson and Johnson 2003: 579). Since I have studied in Exeter University, I have been taught to study in a group, which is totally different from my undergraduate course. In Human resource management class, we have been divided in three groups, there are seven people in my group.who are from China, Malaysia and Japan. Following Gibbs model of reflection(1988), this essays will illustrate five steps, which are description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan. In detail it will focus on the decision making process in our group and reflect my behavior in the group.…

I have been a part of many groups, whether they were academic or work-related. I have had many issues that have caused conflict in these groups settings. A conflict that comes up a lot is how to deal with someone who is not pulling his/her load on the current project. This always leads to excuses about how the person has a much more hectic life than the others in the group and can even lead to pointing out other members’ flaws. Another conflict that can arise is when a “quieter” member of the group doesn’t speak up when he doesn’t agree with someone. This leads to this person developing resentment towards the more outspoken members of the group. It will tend to come out in different ways so this person can vent their frustration and in-turn could be responsible for squashing a tremendous idea. I believe before a group can truly work together, it must bridge the gaps between the different personality types by getting to know one another. This does not necessarily mean meeting socially with the group, in fact this could bring more conflicts into the group that were not otherwise there. I think in order to keep the conflicts simple and manageable the group should stay away from meeting socially.…

We use the Gibbs Reflective Cycle to proceed out group presentation. The first part called Description. When we got this task, teacher divided us into several groups and then we began to prepare the group presentation. Firstly, we distributed the relative task to each group member. Although my assigned part was a little bit difficult for me, I did my best to finish it because I didn’t want to slow my group down. In the group meetings, I noticed that everyone in the group was hard-working and did a good job. In addition, we practice many times before the final presentation. One thing impressed me a lot is that when we practiced our presentation one by one, Hasan, who is very good at presentation give me some valuable advices. Firstly, he said I need to speak louder and become more confident. Secondly, he said I need to try my best to be familiar, but not remember all the content which I have to present in front the examiner. I am still remember Hasan’s advice. The feedbacks from partners also helped me a lot. Finally, we did a good job in presentation. The teacher also pointed something that we can do better. For instance, we did not show all resources about our assignment to the examiner. In the past, we just think it is not as necessary as showing the result. As a result, the feedback from our teacher made me realized that the real evidence was important as well. It will make our result more credible. In the next assignment, I will remember these feedbacks and try my best to correct my shortcomings.…
