Reflection on A Teacher's Triumph
A Teacher’s Triumph
‘I dreamt of stars; I got a planet’

Write a personal reflection and what can you say of Dr. Biyo’s passion of teaching.

Indeed, learning is a continuous process. That for every inch of time that we spend in this world, we do what we love to do and along the way of surviving each passing day, we learn something new, the world evolves so does ourselves. I can relate that thought to what Dr. Biyo had said. She always considers herself to improve on her field. She seeks for knowledge of something on which she doesn’t know yet, she strongly believe that by learning more, she would be able to share everything with the people around her. A point which showed that she didn’t aimed for personal achievements, but instead she was thinking of the true recipients of her determination, these are the people especially the children that will partake from her knowledge.

One doesn’t have to possess everything that he needs in order to continue to make a difference, but by having the right attitude, the will to move forward, the faith are enough. Materialistic things can make one to move fast or work conveniently, but we can make use of everything around us even to the cheapest level, and still have an excellent outcome. Dr. Biyo never failed to innovate to make learning as interesting as possible, with or without the materials or facilities that she had in mind, and she never forgot the role of the environment in her teaching. Learning outside, not only to what the classroom has to offer, is beneficial to learners as they would have a bigger view or perception of things as compared to what they could just hear or read inside.

She never failed to touch lives with all the means that she had, to teach them what she knows, but on top of that, she didn’t develop the superiority over the people around her. She stood her ground as a teacher to her students and as a guide to her colleagues. There will always be a way to attain success on our chosen field.

In her Harvard speech of 2008 she quoted “Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter, and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”…
