I would make a great elementary school teacher, because I want to help children learn and have fun at the same time, I’m a good listener, I have experience with young children and I have a passion for teaching.
In my opinion teaching is very much like cooking, you follow the recipes and add in your own touch. Cherry Patten asked, “What Makes a good teacher? Like all good recipes, the ingredients for a teacher's success in the classroom are simple, easy to follow, and allow for personal interpretation, to enhance the result.” She's saying, yes, teachers have standards and a curriculum they have to meet, (the recipe.) but with every recipe you have a chance to put your own touch in, to make a lasting impression. I
plan on making learning fun, and having a very hands on classroom.
I have taught preschool and have been in the childcare field so, I have a pretty good feel of what it takes to be a teacher. As a teacher, you are a model they are learning how to act and behave from you. You expect them to listen when you talk therefor, you need to listen when they talk. You need to treat them how you want them to treat their peers.
One very important ingredient in teaching is listening and actually hearing what children have to say. Leblanc said, “Good teaching is when you listen and are responsive to the children, it's about caring.” If you don't listen to the children how do you expect them to listen to you? From my experience learned how important this is. The NSPCC (national society for prevention of cruelty to children) says’ “Listening is about to-way communication between you and the child with each of you valuing and respecting the views of the other.” To be a good teacher you must be a good listener.
