Reflective Essay: My Philosophy Of Leadership
My philosophy of leadership solely revolves around Theory Y. I believe that people like to work. There is a bit of accomplishment and satisfaction of getting up and doing something every day. I also believe that people are self-motivated. It has been said plenty times that we cannot motivate someone else. We may be able to influence their motivation, but self-motivation truly comes from within. Self-motivation towards work can be shown by the individuals getting up and actually going to work on time. If these individuals were not self-motivated, they would not go to work. They would not have career goals, they would not worry about how they are going to pay their bills, nor would they worry about how they would provide for themselves or their family. I also believe that people accept and seek responsibility. …show more content…

When it comes to leadership styles, the democratic style of leadership comes easiest to me. This semester I am taking an employee relations class. In this class, my professor asked four students to be group leaders for a research project she had in mind. She decided which four students to choose based off of a self-evaluating survey we took at the beginning of the semester. I was lucky enough to get chosen to be one of the group leaders. Upon getting with my group, I discussed how I was not going to be a dictator and decide which topic we were going to write about, nor was I going to initially give them demands without their input. I gave examples of some of the topics and then let the group discuss what topic we should pick. The topic for our research paper just so happens to be about
