Reflective Essay Ncoa

Before I arrived at NCOA, I wasn’t sure what I was going to learn throughout the course. Some friends told me the course was amazing, while others said it is just a vacation and I should enjoy it. Then, there are the people who just plain hate school and said it was the worst time ever. I tried to keep an open mind about the course, but it becomes difficult when you have so many people telling you so many different things. I tried to put all my opinions and misconceptions aside and give the material a fair chance. I hoped I would learn something new not just for my leadership abilities, but also about myself. As I attended class this last week, I believe the most interesting topic covered was the four lenses lesson. It opened my eyes up to the type of person I am and why I make some of the decisions I have made in the past. As I look at the other TSgt’s in the class and see how they act based on their colors it has helped me to see the colors of those who work for me. Now, when I look at my office, I understand there are better ways to get our task done. As I now see SrA Davis, I see he is an orange like me and he needs some excitement. So, I know now if I give him some time to do the things he likes in the office, he might actually become a more productive worker. I realize he is also a blue and understanding how relationships affect him allows me to truly see why he acts the way he does when he gets around his friends. Understanding how to motivate him and his different temperaments will allow me makes our office more productive. Now as I think about the different information about this course my peers gave me, I believe the four lenses lesson alone was worth coming to NCOA. I can now take a different look at my subordinates and motivate them through their different temperaments. I can strive to make my office more productive not just for the unit, but also the Air
