Reflective Essay On Medication Rights
Medication safety is a major a part of nursing care and is stressed immensely during clinical experiences as well as nursing classes. The six rights of medication is addressed every time a medication pass is initiated and includes the following: right patient, right route, right time, right drug, right dose, and documentation. Without using these six rights of medication administration there is an increase in the probability of a medication error leading to poor patient outcomes. During clinical I am able to practice my six rights regularly by giving three students their oral medications during the school day. The students come down to the nurses office during the correct times for their medications and I always ask the student their name,
verify their medication, dose of the medication, and proceed to document after they have received their proper scheduled medication for that specific school day.
