Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is essential for all staff working in health and social care. So what is CPD? Find a definition, reference it and explain why CPD is so important in health and social care. Consider different policies and procedures and ways of working, why should staff be continuously learning? Link to your placements and the different types of service users, do you think there are often changes with how things should be done? Consider service user’s needs, and also how they might communicate (again, keep making links to your placements). Also, equality and diversity, funding, practical care skills and life-saving skills for example. Do they all stay the same? How will we know if things have changed? Finish off with an overall conclusion.…

Professionalism is an integral part of social work it is there for essential that as a social worker I remain committed to my professional development by tracking responsibility for my conduct practice and learning regularly ( BASW Code of ethics 2013). I understand that the professional element of the role is key component of what being a social worker is about and intend to safeguard the reputation by making sure my conduct adheres at all times to the standards set out by the HCPC. I have had the opportunity to see examples first hand through role play scenarios during class and because of this have made a real comprehensive effort to ensure I am up to date and clear with issues surrounding these. Additionally through further reading I have been able to develop the…

anagerial communication is different from other kinds of communication. Why? Because in a business or management setting, the most brilliant message in the world will do you no good unless you achieve your desired outcome. Therefore, instead of thinking of communication as a straight line from a sender to a receiver, visualize communication as a circle, as shown below, with your success based on achieving your desired response. To get that desired audience response, you need to think strategically about your communication—before you start to write or speak. Strategic communication is based on five interactive variables: (1) communicator (the writer or speaker) strategy, (2) audience strategy, (3) message strategy, (4) channel choice strategy, and (5) culture strategy. These variables may affect one another; for example, your audience analysis affects your communicator style, your channel choice may affect your message, and the culture may affect your channel choice.…

One professional practise I have chosen to write about is time-keeping and attendance. This is because it is important to attend your placement regularly because many people rely on you and expect you to have prepared activities for the children. If you arrive late and were supposed to start an activity in the morning the children and your supervisor will be disappointed and you will have let them down. However if you arrive on time or just arrived extra early it will show that you can fulfil your responsibilities and can be relied/ trusted upon to do any set task given you by the supervisor. Furthermore in my work placement i always try my best to arrive on time and go to my placement everyday. This is a good start to the working day and should become a habit. I also need to attend college regularly so that I do not miss out on my learning.…
