Reflective Summary: Week 1
When the word management is spoken many people draw the definition of simply someone who is in charge of a group of people. After utilizing last week’s readings this group has a much better understanding and comprehension of the term management. In this essay, we will discuss how the four functions of management have increased our knowledge. We have dug a bit deeper into management and learned a lot about internal and external factors which can affect planning, organizing, leading and controlling. We have begun to understand there is a process to everything when you are a manager and are faced with making decisions. These decisions will affect not only you and your employees but also the organization. Therefore it is important that all decisions undergo the 6 step decisions making process. This will help you make the correct decision more often and provide a way for you to review what was done and make changes in the future as necessary.
Functions of Management
What we have learned about the four functions of management is if you specify the objectives that are required to achieve your specific goal in the planning stage, you can manage the success in achieving your goal more steadily. With your planning you then flow your plans into an organized list of actions to know what steps you have taken and the steps that you still need to take in order to reach the desired goal. Along with organizing is the implementation of leading and course of action you have to guide your resources with the proper actions to obtain a higher level of performance. Establishing the controls in managing and monitoring the performance gives the ability to look back at results as well as plan forward and anticipate any change needed. All of this is applicable to our workplace in better managing any task required as opposed to making it harder for ourselves in jumping into a goal with out the proper road map. If you
