Regis University Personal Statement
The reason I decided to choose Regis University is because I wanted a school that was close to home, and I also read wonderful things about there computer science program and how they are one of the top schools for active duty military online. I began to research for colleges about a couple months ago but recently decided to go ahead and apply. My needs for a bachelor and being able to stay focused on work are one of the reason I decided to pursue my education online, along with being married and wanting to have a successful life and career in the military. road to a Bachelors (and hopefully a Masters) from a great and prestigious college. My aspirations for going to college online stems from a plethora of reasons like heading overseas on an unaccompanied tour to South Korea, being away from family, and starting my degree plan so I may be able to use my POST 9/11 for a graduates degree instead of using it all on a bachelors when I get out. When I first found out I had orders to Korea I was pretty excited but then I began to worry. I worried about my family, wife, and rather or not I actually wanted to go. When I told my wife and family they were all very sad but happy at the same time, they didn’t want me to leave but they knew how great of an opportunity it was for me to see the world. I did teeter totter on whether I actually wanted to go or just stay here and live the life I had been, but I know the key to being successful and happy doesn't come from being complacent. So I decided to embrace the idea of leaving and beginning a new chapter of my career. When I realised I would be leaving I decided what can I do with all that free time I will have, I can either go drink and party or better my self in some way. I then came up with the idea of preoccupying my time with COLLEGE HOMEWORK “yay”. So after a lot of time and thought my choices came down to two colleges Regis or WGU . I decided with Regis I am so grateful that this college is very appreciative of the military men and women that they will allows to continue our education online. When I was watching one of the videos where Doctor Roxanne Gonzales was talking about how this school wants to serve those who serve their country I knew that this was the college for me. I realized that one day I want to actually attend school in person and why not move back home to the place that raised me and that is Colorado. When I was young I was raised in between a split household I grew up in Colorado and Illinois.
I moved to Colorado when I was about 4 or 5 when my Mother married this wonderful man who raised me to be the man I am today. It may sound strange but I loved the idea of growing up in two states because it gave me the wonderful oppurtunity to see the Great Rockies of Colorado and the Great Plaines of Illinois. When I was younger I moved between the states about every 2 or 3 years so half my education is in Illinois while the other half was in Colorado. Growing up in Colorado I had some incredible times like My brothers and I would spend hours in the summer digging in the back yard trying to see if we could actually get to China (never did) , while in the winters we would spend hours in the front yard building Igloos and slides when it snowed about 4ft. In Illinois the summers were equally amazing we would spend the days swimming at the local pool while we would spend the nights outside of U.S. cellular stadium, when the White Sox were good, a couple blocks down watching the fireworks go off either after a home run or at the end of the game. The winters in Illinois were brutally cold but that still didn't stop us from playing some hardcore tackle football at the High School or sledding down some insanely steep hills. These childhood memories will just keep getting fonder and fonder with time. As time slowly moves along and the future comes enclosing to an end I would love to make
Regis university apart of my fondest of memories. I will hopefully look back when I am old and gray with my grandchildren running around that this school was the place that prepared me for the world that.
